Designer capsule collections never really interested me much, probably mostly because I found most of the pieces to be overpriced and generic. Unfortunately, this was also the case with Maison Martin Margiela x H&M‘s collection. I know many consider Margiela to be a fashion visionary, but personally I find most of his clothes simply unwearable. I guess it’s just not my style. However, I always used to have a soft spot for Margiela’s footwear and the shoes from his capsule collection for H&M somehow did resonate with me. My absolute favorite style were the wedge booties with the lucite wedge heel which shouldn’t come as a surprise since I have made a very similar shoe style my Heel of the Day editor’s pick back in September 2010. But $350 for a pair of H&M shoes? Uh, thank you, but no, thank you!

Update (03/20/2019): Katy Perry probably figured we wouldn’t remember Margiela’s lucite wedge booties from his capsule collection for H&M in 2012, but we did! Check out Katy’s homage to Margiela which is on sale for half off and available in either black or iridescent platinum silver.

Choies Lucite Wedge Heel Ankle Booties
While I think $171.99 is still quite a lot of money for a pair of booties, these lucite heel wedge boots by Choies which look almost identical to the Margiela x H&M wedge booties are still about 50% cheaper and made of genuine leather, too, just like the real Margielas.
