Self-Portrait. How could we have possibly missed out on covering this new and super coveted brand for so long? Sorry about that, folks. But before we head into showing you our best Self-Portrait steal finds, here are a few facts about the contemporary fashion label: it was founded in 2013 by Han Chong (also former creative director of Three Floor) and quickly gained red carpet and social media buzz shortly after, landing dress gigs with celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon and Miranda Kerr as well as personal style bloggers like Chiara Ferragni (The Blonde Salad) and Kristina Bazan (Kayture). The signature aesthetic of the London-based brand are feminine, romantic dresses and separates with lots of lace, embroidery and sheer overlays which have a surprisingly appealing price point: Dresses typically fall in the $500-$600 price range. And while I honestly applaud Han Chong for wanting to create a mid-priced fashion label with lots of attention to detail, $500 is still a lot of money for a lot of people (even though I’ll admit the “Azaelea” dress, which by the way got silently renamed correctly to “Azalea” in the meantime, thus probably referring to the flower, pictured below looks like it’s worth every penny of it). Keep on reading to find various stylish Self-Portrait dress alternatives for much less.

Another gorgeous Self-Portrait Azaelea alternative is this lace midi dress by H&M. It’s currently only available in yellow (also comes in white and rose pink now), but it does look lovely and so similar to the real deal, right? I know $129 seems oddly expensive for an H&M dress, but be rest assured, I actually ordered this dress myself and it is definitely worth the money, the fit is flattering and the quality is good. LuLu*s Pinnacle of Prestige Lace Midi Dress

If you can’t afford spending half a grand on a flirty summer dress, here’s our best steal find (yet!) which I discovered at LuLu*s some time ago. And I would’ve showed you this lovely $64 lace midi dress some time ago already, but it kept selling out so fast – restock after restock – that I didn’t even have enough time to finish up this blog post before this dress was completely sold out again, so I patiently waited until it got restocked for what feels like the tenth time now and for the first time it didn’t sell out in the first 60 minutes. Yay! However, this dress is obviously still wildly popular, so I wouldn’t wait too long with buying. Who knows if it’ll be restocked for an eleventh time?

Persun Flower Embellished Cami Dress

And of course, where there’s a trend Asian copycats can’t be too far away. The design of the Persun midi lace dress is very close to the real deal (including the colors), but I can’t tell for sure whether the quality is worth paying $43.99 for.

Similar dress options are also available by Choies & Jessica Buurman.

Free People South Of The Equator Midi Dress

OK, now this Self-Portrait steal find kind of irritates me. Don’t get me wrong: I love Free People and I looooove designer dupes. But what I don’t understand is how you can blatantly copy a $480 dress and then sell your own copied version for a whopping $300 (now on sale for $69.95), thus making both dresses compete in the same price range? Now that’s a little shameless, isn’t it? Even for blatant copycats. Anyway, I still wanted to include this dress option because it does look a lot like the real deal and it is in fact still $180 $380 cheaper than the original, so if you’re OK with paying that much money for a copycat design, feel free to do so.

I don’t actively follow swimwear fashion, so for me to take notice of a swimwear trend, it really takes a lot of hype and medial exposure (yes, I have seen you, Triangl bikinis!) or a very, very beautiful bikini/swimsuit. Marysia‘s scalloped “Antibes” swimwear is easily both: beautiful and dearly loved by celebs and online influencers worldwide. The scalloped swimsuits and bikinis regularly get a fair share of social media exposure and are universally flattering for women of all shapes and sizes. Now if only they weren’t so darn expensive, the “Antibes” bikini set will set you back $282.

While I admittedly do not know much about The Row other than it’s a fashion label launched by the Olsen twins, I do know that I really, really like their “April” Bow Satin Slides. Intendedly or not, these sandals combine three current fashion trends: 1) knotted bows on 2) flat slides embedded in 3) shiny satin fabric. It’s all about laid-back comfort footwear these days and I have to admit: I like it! What I don’t like though is the $795 price tag on what is basically just a thong sandal. You’re cute, April, but you’re not that cute! We’ll talk again in the sale section.

And lastly, if you don’t want an obvious designer knock-off, check out this satin bow slide sandal I discovered at Mango which I think is a wonderful alternative to The Row’s “April” slides. These are from Mango’s “Premium” collection, so the price of $149.99 is higher than we are used of Mango, but they are still more than $600 cheaper than the real deal, so there’s that.

Does the name Rene Caovilla ring a bell with you? If not, it definitely should and if you ask why, then just take a look at the darling shoes below and I’m sure you will all come to agree with me on this. Rene Caovilla is a family-run shoemaking business from Italy with a strong focus on jeweled luxury shoes. And as you can see, you don’t even have to be a high heel lover to be a fan. Their pearl- and bow-adorned thong sandal called “Venus” has been around for more than two decades now and is considered to be one of Caovilla’s most famous signature styles. Too bad you’d have to be pretty rich though because these babies are everything but cheap!

Luckily, there’s no need to break the bank because these pearly bow flat sandals by Marc Fisher are the next best thing to Rene Caovilla if you’re on a budget. Fisher’s “Fumi” is astonishingly similar to Caovilla’s “Venus” sandals; the only noticeable difference being the missing crystal rim on the sole. But since they’re about one thousand dollars cheaper than the real deal, I wouldn’t complain too much about missing details.

Another cute and slightly cheaper Rene Caovilla Venus alternative would have to be these faux-pearl bow thong sandals by ASOS. These are more of an “inspired by”-kind rather than an identical dupe, but I find them beautiful nonetheless. A similar version named “Florence” is available here.

While Self-Portrait certainly had its breakthrough with the Azaelea dress, my personal SP favorite was another dress: Ivy, a gorgeous lace-trim tiered midi dress with a Swiss Dot texture and an open lace-up back. I could probably gush about this dress for the next hour or just simply say that it is *the* perfect summer dress! Playful, feminine, delicate, breezy – what more could you possibly ask for in a summer dress? The only bummer is the price of $625 (now $437.50) which seems reasonable when you consider all the details that this dress has to offer, but still, $437.50 is a lot of money for a lot of people.

Warehouse Lace Tiered Dress

When I first saw this lace tiered midi dress at Warehouse, it instantly reminded me of the Ivy dress even though it clearly has some obvious differences. I wouldn’t call it a dupe, but the whole concept of the dress, which is available in either black, white or rust by the way, is definitely at least inspired by Self-Portrait’s whimsical aesthetic. Unfortunately, this Ivy look-alike dress ain’t cheap either ($176!), but at least it’s still almost $450 cheaper than the real deal.
