Fall Trend – Velvet Crush

by Irina on September 30, 2017

Fall has officially arrived and so have my cravings for a wardrobe style update and anything pumpkin spiced. Velvet continues to be one of the major trends for the colder sweater weather season this year, especially in autumnal jewel tones like mustard, petrol blue, wine or purple. Dare to stand out in a statement velvet piece or wear multiple velvet items in one look. Here I’ve come up with an up-to-date Fall look based on two of my favorite velvet picks and included accessories that I think would work well with either one of the dresses. So what you do think? Is velvet still hot or are you totally over it by now? Let us know in the comments!

If there’s a shoe trend I noticed over the last couple of months, it’s sporty footwear with a feminine twist. Whether it be floral embroideries à la Gucci, shiny pearls à la Miu Miu, girly bows à la Puma or in this case a delicate blush pink velvet upper combined with wide satin ribbon laces, “sporty meets elegance” is one of Spring’s biggest trends! Luckily, you don’t need to spend a fortune on a pair of designer sneakers to indulge in this trend as there are various sneaker alternatives at almost any price point. And while the Steve Madden velvet sneakers aren’t terribly expensive to begin with (retail price is $79.95), we managed to find a just as gorgeous and super spot-on sneaker for under $30! Total steal alert!

I have a new favorite trend for the remainder of fall and coming winter: emerald green velvet as seen at Cushnie Et Ochs‘ F/W 2015 runway show (I simply adore the matchy-matchy head-to-toe velvet look here!). There’s just something so hypnotic about this deeply rich color and sensual material mix that makes it absolutely irresistible to me! Emerald green velvet looks so luxurious, so mysterious, so noble. Luckily, a couple of fashion chains picked up on this bold trend and incorporated it into their fall/winter collections, most notably Topshop and H&M which both have an extensive selection of (emerald) velvet pieces available at the moment (check out Topshop here and H&M here). Below I’ve selected my favorite emerald velvet picks which are both fashionable and affordable. Set off your green velvet look with bold gold jewelry, a black faux fur vest or, if you really want to make a statement with your outfit, just add some glitter.

If I had to describe my person fashion style in three words, “feminine” would definitely be among it. That’s probably one of the reason why I’ve never been particularly fond of the classic combat boot à la Doc Martens. However, lately I have discovered so many beautiful combat boot styles with feminine details such as velvet uppers, floral prints or lovely pastel colorways that it made me rethink my stance on combat boots being too bulky and masculine (for me). What do you think? Can combat boots be feminine or not? And if so, which of the three versions below is your favorite? The Velvet, floral print or pink one? Take the poll down below and let us know.

Gucci‘s S/S 2011 collection was some sort of style epiphany for me. I’d even go as far to say it was one of the best S/S collections I’ve ever seen. I loved everything from this collection: the colors, the fabrics, the silhouettes, the accessories and of course, the shoes! Gucci’s “Malika” strappy sandals sure do look luxe. The gold piping, the smooth velvet straps, the pin-thin gold stiletto heel. Perfection! Except for the not-so-nice price of $995.

ALDO “Boulger” T-Strap Sandals

If you love the look of Gucci, but don’t have the funds to support your designer obsession, you might want to opt for these more wallet-friendly ALDO heels instead. They’re not a dupe and definitely have a few differences, but the overall look still screams Gucci to me. Available in orange, camel & gold.
