Balmainia! It just won’t stop. For many months now the newly revived Balmain has been the “it” designer label in Fashionville. And as much as I hate being overly consumed by a trend, I just can’t help but love it. I’m so excited to see what Christophe Decarnin comes up with for the Spring 2010 collection. Are we going to see peaked shoulders and ultra-short mini dresses again? Time will tell.
In the meantime we’ll have to drool at all the pieces from this year’s fall collection and may I say it’s been a wonderful one (I think I’m saying this for the 100th time!)? Some of the strapless mini dresses had long ruffled back trains to create a dramatic effect. Not the most practical accessory, but certainly a show-stopping one. The strapless dress below hasn’t hit the stores yet, so the retail price is unknown, but Balmain dresses usually sell for $6k-$10k. Expensive doesn’t even come close.

Bebe Strapless Sequin Train Dress
Bebe doing Balmain. Sounds repetitive, no? I guess they won’t stop until the Balmain fever is over. This silver strapless sequin dress is Bebe’s interpretation of the Balmain dress above. A budget version (even though $198 aren’t exactly what I’d call a steal). The train is not as dramatic as on the original and can also be removed. You have the choice to either glam it up and go for an extravagant look or sex it up and settle for the sexy mini version.

I remember the time when I first discovered the Hervé Léger brand. That was back in 2007 when the bandage dresses weren’t so overexposed on the red carpet. I was so smitten with the whole Spring 2008 collection, I used to browse the Hervé Léger website for hours just staring at all the beautiful dresses which looked like they’ve been sprayed on the model’s impeccable body.
The white dress below used to be my absolute favorite. The crisp white color and the hourglass shape made it simply irresistible.

BB Dakota "The Rebel Dress"
This knockoff dress by BB Dakota may be only available in black and pistachio, but the straps as well as the bandage detailing are the same as on the original Hervé Léger dress. The “Rebel” dress retails for $65 and if you enter coupon code TASH09 at the checkout, you’ll receive 15% OFF your entire order.

Lipsy Strap Detail Body-Con Dress
European Hervé Léger aficionados can also grab their own bandage dress 4 less. Lipsy has a very similar to the one above which retails for £65 (~$107) and comes in either lavender (pictured) or coral.

In case you lived under a rock for the last 2 years: Hervé Léger is THE new, hot thing to have. Ever since the brand has been revived by BCBG owner Max Azria, everyone from A- to D-List has been sporting one of the sexy body-con bandage dresses. I seriously lost count just how often I’ve seen Hervé Léger designs on the red carpet for the last 2 years.

Charlotte Russe Knit Bandage Dress
Now look at this! Charlotte Russe apparently got wind of the Hervé Léger mania and decided to cash in on the craze. Their knockoff dresses sure are not as delicate as an original Hervé Léger, but at $26.99 I guess you just can’t have it all, huh?
SHHHH! Don’t tell anyone, but if you enter coupon code AFF15PCT at the checkout, you’ll get 15% OFF your order (promo code valid until June 13, 2009)!

I’m so in love with this dress, it’s ridiculous. I’ve declared my neverending love for Alexander Wang many times before, he always amazes me with his newest creations. My latest addiction is this black bodycon Pre-Fall 2009 dress which has mesh insets on the neck and thigh. I just can’t stop gushing about it. It’s perfection. It’s all I want to wear. All day long. Ever!

The dress hasn’t hit the sales racks yet, but when it does it definitely will be in the $500-$1000 bracket.
UPDATE #1: The dress is now available at Shopbop for $565.

Bebe Mesh Inset Seamless Dress
Count on Bebe to get you fixed with some good ol’ knockoffs. I randomly browsed their site today and found this fantastic 1:1 Alexander Wang copy for $59.
I so want to buy, but shipping to Europe + taxes/duty costs are outrageous, the sum would total in 3x of the dress price. If I can’t find someone in the US being kind enough to buy and ship it for me, I won’t be able to get my hands on it. Grrrrrr, SO UNFAIR!
