Ever since Kristen Stewart donned this black leather bustier dress by Elizabeth & James at a promotinal event in Madrid sometime last year I always wanted and hoped to find a steal version because I really, really liked the dress; the mix of sheer and leather, the side pockets (I love things that have pockets!), pretty much everything about it was enticing for me. But $545? Like seriously? Not gonna happen.

Alright, listen up all you Kim Kardashian haters who blasted her in one of my previous posts: if you don’t like her here, just click away! If you’re still reading, then I’m going to consider you Team Kim. And I don’t care what anyone says, Kim’s bod is sick and she is totally gorgeous. So what if she likes tight. Now’s the time, not when she’s 80. So I say Kim in lacy Preen, with bright pink nails and Veronica Lake hair? Yeah, baby!

I don’t know about you, but I still can’t get over the hotness that was Balmain‘s Fall 2009 collection. It was pure eye candy all the way through. Not that this collection was a practical one; it’s not like you can work a sequined micro mini dress to work. But I’ve never been a practical shopper anyway and understatement is for cowards, right, girls? The actual problem though is, where does one find the necessary 10k to acquire the real Balmain; also non-supermodels might feel a tad uncomfortable rocking a dress that short. That’s why we searched high and low to find you the best Balmain alternatives which embody the disco feeling without looking too stripperella.

I always say that the awesomeness of an article of clothing can be judged by how many talented stylists pull it for their clients to wear. If we go by my thought then the Dolce & Gabbana corset dress is something everyone should run out and buy. Was. Was something we should’ve bought. If you weren’t lucky enough to snag one last spring, it is unfortunately sold out, but read on…

GUESS by Marciano Carmella Corset Dress
For those of you that are subscribing to my above style tip, or perhaps you just love the dress, GUESS by Marciano has created their own version of it. The Carmella dress is slightly more form-fitting, but still features the decorative vertical seams. This detailing is supposed to mimic boning and is extremely figure flattering. Carmella is a ton more affordable and conveniently available now in either white or gold.

Zoe Saldana is such a beautiful woman, isn’t she? She’s got a spectacular face but also an amazing body that is perfect for showing off lovely clothes – and she chooses well (that Oscar dress!). We also love the look she put together for “The Losers” premiere in L.A. just a few days ago. The strong-shouldered Balmain dress is the perfect statement piece and she showed great restraint in choosing her accessories – a simple clutch, belt and ring made that fabulous dress the focal point – along with a pair of badass Cesare Paciotti heels.

We love Zoe’s look, but wanted to find something more affordable (duh!) and also a little more real-world (or “real-girl” as Vahni eloquently put it in one of her posts) friendly. The Balmain dress is amazing, but, seeing as how I’m not a Hollywood starlet, where on earth am I going to wear a frock with such a plunging neckline? Never mind the price. I’m in love with this ASOS Body Con dress. The general feel is the same (strong shoulders, figure-hugging style), but it’s a lot more wearable than the Balmain. The Steve Madden “LANGLY” platforms are spot-on (see below for a 30% OFF coupon code) and the accessories we chose are perfect and CHEAP. All in all this entire look will run you well under $200. Now that’s a steal.

I know you’ll hate me for showing you these heels by Rock & Republic because they’re rather on the pricey side, but not unattainable thus worth at least considering. I’m sorry for that. This blog is usually not meant to empty your wallet, but these kickass pumps have stolen my heart and I MUST share my love with you.
Let’s start with the statement-making version of these… the yellow one – OH MY GAWD! Can you imagine how incredibly sexy & hot these would look with a pair of dark washed skinny jeans and a simple black tank? Your backside would be talk of the town! And if yellow isn’t your speed and you rather prefer subtle sexiness with your shoes, I recommend considering the all-black version which is more muted but equally gorgeous in its own jet-black way. Put these on and you’re sex on heels. Alright, now get on with your hate mail, I can handle it.

I know we have quite a few die-hard Kardashian fans here on InTheirCloset.com, so here’s a quick reminder that the 2nd Kardashians by bebe collection is now available online at bebe.com. Some of the stuff is way overpriced in my opinion, but I also like a few pieces from the collection. Make up your own mind by checking out the collection here.

Alexander Wang is arguably the master of rock grunge. His clothes are exquisitely designed but also have a downtown edge. So leave it to Wang to create a LBD that is equal parts East-Village and Red-Carpet. A nude under layer hints at skin without actually showing any and a sweetheart neckline adds…well, sweetness. I’ll tell you what isn’t sweet, though: that price tag. Oh, and did we mention it’s also sold out? Sit tight, though, we just might have something for you…

Topshop Bandage Ruch Bandeau Dress
Topshop‘s “Bandage Ruch Bandeau Dress” might not be a dead-ringer for the Alexander Wang dress above, but by golly it’s darn close. I might even argue that it’s better. I’m really enjoying the thicker bands of fabric that are strategically placed over the hip and bust area. Of course we still have that hint of a sweetheart neckline and the mini-length and at $90 ($90!) this really is a steal. I predict this one will sell out fast.

Hervé Léger has made a big comeback in recent seasons (now with BCBG designer, Max Azria at its helm), truly pioneering the hugely popular “body-con” dress. A trend defined by its bandage, super-tight frocks, it’s sort-of ironic to think that “body-con” stands for “body-conscious”. Somehow, however, Hervé Léger dresses manage to flatter a woman’s body, hugging and sucking in, in all the right places (just look at how amazing that Saks model looks below!). Lamentably, while I’d love to own one of his creations, I’d have to sell a kidney to make it happen.

Megan Fox always looks sexy, whether she’s wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt or a dress with a slit up to “there”. For this post we will be addressing the latter. Fox wore a Cavalli stunner to the Transformers 2 premiere in Berlin. It was a beautiful maroon, draped gown and had lovely jeweled detailing at the waist. Paired with that high slit and those 5 inch nude pumps, Megan looked like a million bucks.

ASOS Diamante Hoop Split Front Maxi Dress
It’s not often that a “steal” version comes along that I think surpasses the original, but in this case it’s true. There’s no denying that the Roberto Cavalli dress is a stunner (especially on Ms. Fox), but what real woman is going to feel comfortable wearing a dress with a slit that high? It’s just not practical! ASOS has yet again come to the rescue. I’m really feeling their “Diamante Hoop Split Front Maxi Dress”. The real-world-friendly version of the dress comes in the most delectable, rich colors and the slit isn’t quite as high! Hooray! Best of all the dress is quite modestly priced at less than $80.
