Satin

Update: This post has been updated on June 5, 2017. Scroll down to see the new adds.

The moment I first laid eyes onto these fancy satin bow slide sandals by Puma which came out as part of the new Fenty Puma by Rihanna collection earlier this month, I knew Rihanna would have another hit on her hands for the fashion-forward, sportswear-loving ladies (…and men since these are also available in men’s sizing). The new styles are supposedly inspired by the luxurious Parisian days of the famously known decadent Queen of France, Marie-Antoinette, the bow slides are a glammed up version of the classic soccer slide with a super cute satin bow adorning the slide strap which come in either a beautiful pastel pink or edgy olive green. The bow slides retail for $90 which is obviously far from being a designer shoe price, but a) these sandals are so in demand right now that they’re almost sold out everywhere and b) not everbody wants to spend almost $100 on a pair of pool slide sandals, so we took a look around to see whether we could find some lower priced alternatives. Spoiler alert: we did!

Seems like we can’t catch a break from satin slides at the moment and to be honest with you: I don’t really mind! There’s just something so effortlessly chic about slipping into a pair of delicate satin mules, don’t you agree? A few days ago, I was looking through the newest arrivals at my favorite online shops when I saw a picture of Dolce Vita’s “Henry” Cross-Strap Satin Mules. The design seemed instantly familiar to me, but I couldn’t put my finger on the designer inspiration right away. So I kept on browsing while my brain was doing its usual shoe memory scanning process in the background. And suddenly it just hit me that the Dolce Vita design was a lovely hybrid of Gucci’s “Webby” High Heel Mule from last year and Gianvito Rossi’s “Barth” Sandal Slides which we have already featured here in a previous blog post. Copycat math has striked once again! And I must admit: $595 + $645 = $130 is exactly the kind of shopping math that I like!

While I admittedly do not know much about The Row other than it’s a fashion label launched by the Olsen twins, I do know that I really, really like their “April” Bow Satin Slides. Intendedly or not, these sandals combine three current fashion trends: 1) knotted bows on 2) flat slides embedded in 3) shiny satin fabric. It’s all about laid-back comfort footwear these days and I have to admit: I like it! What I don’t like though is the $795 price tag on what is basically just a thong sandal. You’re cute, April, but you’re not that cute! We’ll talk again in the sale section.

Kensie “Major” Bow Slide Sandals

Deal: Use promo code “SUPER” to get 20% off regular, sale & clearance items at Lord & Taylor! Offer valid through June 4th, 2017 at 11:59 PM EST. Exclusions apply.

If you’re not willing to wait until the real deal goes on sale, feel free to take a look at these fabulous slide sandals by Kensie. They’re almost a spot-on “April” dupe but so much cheaper! I also love the added blush pink color! And who wouldn’t love the price of $69.52? Add to cart, please!

GoJane Bow Em Gee Satin Slide Sandals

Still not convinced? How about these fabulous and super affordable The Row look-alikes I found at GoJane then? They have the same spot-on design, come in a variety of lovely summer colors including mint green and periwinkle blue and are currently on sale for a steal-worthy $15.84! Definite steal deal alert!

Mango Bow Satin Sandals

And lastly, if you don’t want an obvious designer knock-off, check out this satin bow slide sandal I discovered at Mango which I think is a wonderful alternative to The Row’s “April” slides. These are from Mango’s “Premium” collection, so the price of $149.99 is higher than we are used of Mango, but they are still more than $600 cheaper than the real deal, so there’s that.

After writing this blog for more than 9 years and scouring the internet for designer dupes even longer, I hardly raise an eyebrow anymore whenever I come across a budget brand or fast-fashion chain copying a high fashion designer. But when designers – with very similar price points – copy amongst each other? Baffling! Which is exactly how I felt when I recently stumbled upon a pair of frayed satin slides by Stuart Weitzman. I knew I had seen that same style somewhere before, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on where. So after a few days I have almost already forgotten about it when I accidentally saw the Gianvito Rossi‘s “Barth” Sandal which looks so much alike, they’re basically designer shoe twins. Both have the same design, the same details, the same fabric and the same color! The prices, however, are somewhat different, but still close enough together to be both considered luxury shoes with Rossi’s sandals costing $645 and Weitzman’s version being priced at $375. I can’t tell who is copying whom though since I don’t know who came out first with their shoe style. Anyway, both sandals are absolutely fabulous and right on trend with the soft pink tone and the silky satin upper, so you can either go with your personal preference or your bank account because style-wise it’s a close tie between these two.

To this date Manolo Blahnik‘s “Hangisi” Cobalt Blue Satin Pumps are still one of the most requested shoes for a Real vs. Steal post on this blog. Our inbox is filled with emails from women who asked us to find a budget-friendly alternative to Carrie Bradshaw’s beautifully blue Manolos in the 2008 Sex and the City movie. And while there are quite a few wonderful Hangisi look-alikes out there, many of them run either on the rather expensive side or are simply not available anymore, so I was super happy when I came across these vivid blue satin heels by ASOS because they’re the perfect blank canvas for a DIY Manolo Blahnik Hangisi shoe project. All you need – besides the ASOS shoes, of course – is a pair of sparkly shoe clips and you’re good to go! I happened to find a really cute version by this brand called Absolutely Audrey for $21.99 which will give you a very similar look to the Manolo Blahniks. The total price for this super basic DIY amounts to a little over $90 which is less than 1/10 of the real deal’s price. Now that’s what I call a real steal deal!
