Real vs. Steal – Proenza Schouler PS1 Medium Leather Satchel

Everybody loves Proenza Schouler‘s PS1 bag including me. This infamous bag candy comes in an array of different colors, materials, textures and sizes and the teal green medium leather satchel seen below is my absolute favorite version of the PS1. I loooooove a bright bag! And green I do love, too. The price of $1.595 not so much though.

Real vs. Steal – Proenza Schouler PS1 Large Leather Satchel

Sometimes I really question my sanity. I will jump at the chance to buy and subsequently wear (all night long) a pair of 5 inch heels, however when it comes to bags I am much more comfort-conscious. I carry my Rebecca Minkoff cross-body purse more than any other bag in my closet, and it’s because it’s just so darn comfortable. I really love a cross-body bag because it distributes the weight of all your worldly possessions while simultaneously looking effortlessly chic. My new favorite bag to fall into this utopian category is the Proenza Schouler PS1 Large Leather Satchel. God, it’s a beauty, isn’t it? I’m particularly lusting after the gray color Leighton Meester is carrying. Unfortunately this satchel retails for $1.595. Yes, folks, life is cruel.

Tylie Malibu Heritage Trotter Ohio THC002 Satchel

UPDATE (09/29/2011): So I know this “steal” by Tylie Malibu is probably the most expensive designer look-a-like we’ve ever featured, but I just found it way too good to pass on it. The bag might be too pricey for most of us at $495, but it’s still $1.100 cheaper than the original PS1 so I guess it does qualify as a steal. Make sure to check out the gorgeous suede and nubuck versions as well. So gorgeous!

ASOS Leather Slot Through Satchel

UPDATE (05/14/2010): I just stumbled upon another ASOS PS1 inspired version and I think it looks absolutely amazing. The bags comes in black, nude, yellow, green, mink & black/brown, is made of real leather and although not every detail is spot-on the overall look & feel is very similar to the Proenza Schouler PS1 in my opinion.

But wait! What light through yonder window breaks? ASOS‘s Leather Twist Lock Satchel is not an exact copy of the Proenza Schouler bag but it is so similar in all the ways that count (I considered seeing that Shakespeare reference through to the bitter end but didn’t want to bore you). I love the buttery looking leather and of course the long cross-body strap. I am also quite fond of the rich tan color. I truly think this is an excellent “inspired by” satchel. Now if only it came in gray…

Real vs. Steal – Mulberry Oversized Alexa Leather Bag

A good friend of mine recently bought a Mulberry Bayswater (a gift to herself on her birthday) and for a week straight everyone oohed and ahhed over it at the office. It is a spectacular bag, to be sure, but I think this new Mulberry takes the cake: the Alexa – a slouchier, more casual version of the Bayswater named after British style export Alexa Chung who is a true devotee of the Mulberry brand. If you haven’t heard tell of this bag yet, you will. Speculated to be the “It” bag of the moment, the Alexa sold out instantaneously on NET-A-PORTER after being added last week. Restocks are supposed to follow soon, but even still, this beautiful creation is way out of my sad little budget.

Real vs. Steal – Gucci New Bamboo Stud-Embellished Leather Tote

I’m really enjoying the look of this sleek Gucci Bamboo leather tote! Love the bamboo handle and of course the classic Gucci tassels. I also love that the bag comes with an extra strap just in case you get tired carrying it around your arm. Yet, the price tag is a little steep for me. If you’re willing to pay the $4.200 by all means go ahead! You’ll definitely receive compliments. But, if you want a steal we have one for you!
