Real vs. Steal – Chanel Mesh Espadrille Flats

Soooooo, Chanel espadrilles, anyone? Let me tell you: last year they were EVERYWHERE! I feel like I’ve seen them on pretty much every famous style blogger’s feet. Chanel released a couple different variations, one of which are these black cap-toe mesh espadrille flats. I must admit I have grown quite fondly of this particular version, but I don’t see myself spending $450 on a pair of espadrille shoes anytime soon.

A unique twist to the mundane wedge is perfectly exhibited here by the ultimate heel mastermind, Giuseppe Zanotti, of course. Containing all of the staple Zanotti features such as a) a very high heel, b) signature wedge style, and c) glamour in every shape and form! What I love about this shoe is the versatility and ability to style these for day or evening wear. For instance, Kim K. looks absolutely fantastic in these wedges. Whether she wears them with a casual pair of distressed jeans or flowy dresses she looks very polished and chic. Though the must-haves are sold out, fear not because we found an identical pair to match these!

Steve Madden “KARDD” Ankle Strap Espadrille Wedges

To match the designer beauties above, Steve Madden has cultivated perfection in the form of these look-a-like “KARDD” wedges. Honestly, I can’t spot much of a difference; however, the price variation is extremely distinguishable. In terms of color, these are a bit darker than the Woven Raffia wedges and are also available in nude and leopard print. As for details, I absolutely love the zipper detail on the back! Don’t miss out on these beautiful shoes!

One of my favorite designers is Azzedine Alaïa. I can always expect beautiful craftsmanship and design, but that usually comes with a not so beautiful and quite large price tag. Just look at these Raffia Wedge Sandals; they exude all of the elements that make Alaïa a known name in the fashion industry. Obviously, many would agree with that statement as they are sold out. Fortunately, if you want to steal this style, we found an alternative that is just perfect for summer!

Matisse “Ipanema” Espadrille Wedge Sandals

Matisse may not be Alaïa, but these wedge sandals certainly look like they are! The “Ipanema” wedge is like a sister shoe compared with the “Raffia” wedge, minus $1.942.50. Currently priced at $102.50, they can be easily adapted into anyone’s personal style without delving into a savings account. Also, I love how they can be transformed and worn accordingly to any occasion. This versatility really makes these wedges a necessity in one’s closet.

You know what bugs me big time? When I do my daily shoe research and start seeing shoes from different brands which have all the same design or concept. Almost always a sign that these are “inspired by“-shoes. Most of the time I am able to tell by whom these steal versions were inspired, but not this time. I stumbled upon 4 wedge styles, all different brands but with the same design and I just couldn’t tell the designer inspiration to these knockoffs. It was so frustrating! But life is fair – sometimes at least. Because yesterday I accidentally browsed the shoe section at theOutnet and voilà, there I spied them: the “Amaya” wedges by Paloma Barceló. Finally, the mystery was solved! No wonder I couldn’t tell the designer because up until yesterday I have never heard of Paloma Barceló. So I decided to educate myself and looked up the brand. Turns out it’s a Spanish footwear line founded in 1960 specializing in mostly espadrille styles. Check out the various designs at NET-A-PORTERls, so stunning, perfect summer shoes!

Now how good is this knockoff by MIA? Spot on! You can’t barely tell the difference (of course I cannot comment on the quality aspect here). And they happen to be on sale as well! Yay! These come in tan, brown and olive.

These espadrille wedges by Naughty Monkey fall into the same “can’t tell them apart“-category as the MIAs. They’re virtually identical to the Paloma Barceló originals. A little more expensive than the MIA version, but these here come in other colors including a super lovely teal which I adore. Down from $95 to $44.50. Available in black, brown, grey, raspberry & teal.

New Look Straw Strappy Wedges

Now what’s funny is that I purchased these very wedges by New Look prior to knowing that these were actually knockoffs. For me they are keepers. Quality is OK (not real leather, but not expecting much at this price). These look great with capris, shorts and all kinds of summer dresses, of course. Available in black, white and tan.

Wanted “Notti” Wedge Sandals

These Wanted wedges are not quite spot-on as the ones listed above, but overall there’s still something like an 80% similarity with the key details all there. Also, these here come in the cutest colors such as yellow, baby blue, orange & pink (+ boring black and tan).
