Gucci‘s Soho bag pictured below is a chic and classic crossbody and as far as branding goes rather subtle with its embossed iconic GG logo emblem, at least for being Gucci after all. But if you’d ask whether I think these stitched on double GGs are worth the multiple hundred dollar markup that puts this bag near 4 digit price territory? Not really. And while I’ve declared my love for Valentino many times over, especially when it’s something from their famed “Rockstud” collection, I am not a millionaire and have quite a few monthly bills to pay, so there’s no way I could possibly justify spending almost 2k on one bag. Luckily though you can get the best of both worlds, Gucci and Valentino, for (much, much) less – on sale even! – by opting for Kate Spade‘s fabulous Tinley bag which looks like a very pretty mashup of Gucci’s Soho and Valentino’s Rockstud Rolling crossbody. Tinley originally retailed for $278, but is now on sale for $181 which would save you $669 on the Gucci bag and $1.564 on the Valentino one. A total of $2.414 saved if you decide to go for the look for less version instead of buying the two designer bags.

You know how I know we’re good? Because we never forget a shoe. Or a handbag. Or a face. OK, so not the last one. Back in the old days (you know, 2005) the fashion world saw the introduction to the “It Bag” – a bag that became every starlet’s must have accessory. One day, readers (stay with me), Mary Kate Olsen was spotted carrying a gorgeous black, studded bag that no one could identify but that everyone immediately wanted. A year later the bag (eventually attributed to the talented, Alexander Wang) was made available to the public. It was then known as “Coco”; it is now known as “Rocco”; I can afford neither one.

Wet Seal Stud Bottom Satchel

I have to be honest, the last time I shopped at Wet Seal I was looking for something to wear to the school dance (in other words, it was 1998), but by golly perhaps Wet Seal deserves another look! Their Stud Bottom Satchel is a pretty darn great dupe of the Alexander Wang bag. True, it’s not made out of leather, but I know there are vegans among us who actually prefer that. For a mere $24.50 this is a hot bag to add to your arsenal.

I’ve fallen in love with the color cobalt blue a few years ago and ever since swoon over everything that’s tinted in this deeply saturated blue hue. Another thing I have a soft spot for is thick pebbled leather. The first time I learned to love this luxurious texture is when I got the BagInc “Alexa” Bag. The leather felt so incredibly soft! Clare Vivier’s Foldover Clutch has both of these things. It comes in this amazing blue color and the pebbled leather just adds depth and detail to this already great-looking bag! And how cute is the papaya pink lined zipper? Such a great contrast against the cobalt blue! But the best thing is that this clutch isn’t as expensive as it looks. Only $235!

HOT DEAL: Use our exclusive promo code “INTHEIRCLOSET” for 10% OFF your order!

OK, so let me start off by saying that I’m not the girly type of person who falls for all things pink. In fact, I try to avoid all rosey pastel pinks the best I can. I do like, however, a strong and daring shade of pink, much like the hue on this new in duffle bag by BagInc. If you happen to read this blog for a while, you’ll know I love, love, love my black Alexa bag from BagInc (read my review here) and this new colorful version would be a great update to my Alexa bag collection I think (alright, you can’t quite call it a collection yet when you own only one Alexa bag, but it’s not like I ain’t planning on starting one). Any advice whether to buy or not to buy?

Review: BagInc Alexa Studded Bag

by Irina on March 4, 2012

Like many of you I was quite smitten with Alexander Wang’s Rocco bag, but again, like many of you, I didn’t have a spare $875 to indulge in this studded handbag goodness. Then I discovered BagInc’s Alexa – a bag quite worthy of the perfect doppelgänger-title, all that for $179 (and we’re speaking real leather bag here!). But since I’ve always been more of a shoe girl, acquiring new footwear was always first priority, hence I never got around to actually buy this fabulous looking bag. Luckily, a few months later my fashion blogger status enabled me to get this studded beauty for free because BagInc contacted me and asked whether I’d be interested in reviewing this particular bag since they saw so many orders from people who found this bag via our Real vs. Steal post on the Alexander Wang Rocco bag. I was. Here is my review:

My BagInc Alexa Bag

Review: BagInc Alexa Studded Bag in black

The first thing I can confirm (which you can probably already see from my photos above) is YES, the bag looks just as good in real life as it does on the product photo. And it feels goood, too. But first things first.

The bag arrived packed very flat, so what I did first was restoring the bag’s shape by stuffing it full with leftover padding material. I let the bag sit like that for around 2 days, then took it for a closer inspection. What really stood out most to me was the supberb quality and the involved craftmanship, I didn’t quite expect to get that from a $159 bag that came all the long way to me from Hong Kong, China. So I looked closer and tried to find the catch. But nothing. The brass hardware looked good, zipper worked like a charm, no loose threads or horrible stitching or any sign of smelly leather.

Another thing I really liked about this bag is the textured leather which feels soft yet sturdy and is also cut quite thick which I think is a huge bonus since paperthin leather bags tend to rip easier and wear down quicker.

There are two minor things that slightly bugged me about this bag. 1.) I wished it was about 2-3 inches wider which I think would make the bag look less square-ish when you’re looking at it from the front. 2.) Due to its duffle shape the bag looks best when it’s stuffed to the brim. The structure of the bag is not stable enough to hold up the round shape on its own, so if you want the full-fledged duffle shape you have to stuff the bag which might be a problem to some of you who, opposed to me, don’t tend to carry all their belongings in their bag.

By the way, if anyone’s interested in the details of my outfit: I got the coat and scarf via ASOS, the ring is from The Quiet Riot (YSL Arty ring look-alike). Booties are Dolce Vita.

Bottom Line

It is a quality bag and definitely worth the $179 investment (get it for less by using our exclusive 15% off promo code SPRINGBAG). Apart from the two minor things I mentioned above the bag is pretty much perfect.

Do I recommend this bag? Yes. Would I have bought it with my own money? Yes, I just didn’t because sometimes you have to see (and feel) something in real life before you recognize its true fabulousness.

Don’t believe me? Read one of the many bag reviews which are almost all 4-5 star reviews with people being totally amazed by the quality of this bag (just like I am!).
