Military Style

UPDATE: This post has been updated on December 01, 2010. Scroll down to read the news.

Peep-toe booties are admittedly not the most practical of all footwear. They’re too warm for summer and too cold for winter, but absolutely perfect for all kinds of weather in between those seasons. Another plus is that peep-toe booties tend to look less bulky than closed ankle boots. Giuseppe Zanotti was the first to start the military trend on shoes in the name of French fashion house Balmain and ever since so many army green, buckled, laced-up, combat-style booties have popped up. None of them quite matched these beauties here though….well, until today…

There are only very few things that are quite as timeless and long-lasting as a tailor-cut wool coat. When it comes to making beautiful, classic outerwear such as coats and jackets Burberry Prorsum is undoubtedly the top dog. Yes, a real Burberry is pricey, but considering you’ll keep that coat for 10-20 years without it ever going out of style the cost-per-wear becomes staggeringly affordable.

It’s all about military style this fall. Balmain started it, Burberry Prorsum refined it and the rest came along. Now we’re seeing tons of army green chinos, studded combat boots and military jackets. If you’re loving this trend, but don’t have the cash to follow into Balmain’s footsteps, here’s a budget-friendly outfit I created with all items being available at Charlotte Russe. The total cost of this outfit sums up to a fair $137 and quite frankly I’m a little proud of myself. I’m especially loving the boots here.

The military trend seems to still be holding, and with shoes like the Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain Cuff Lace Up Booties, I am totally not surprised. How can you not love this feminine-but-tough bootie? Especially right now. No matter which hemisphere you’re in, this is the ideal boot for transitioning from summer to fall, or winter to spring. But you know Balmain means big bucks. Wah.

ZiGiny “JONI” Zip Ankle Boots

If you’re thinking the Balmain bootie is just what you need, then direct your attention to the ZiGiny “JONI” Zip Ankle Boots. Balmain, schmalmain, I say. You can have virtually the same look for under $200, which leaves you with plenty of cheddar for the coming season’s hot pieces. And if you’re in the northern hemisphere, that means a shearling and skinny cargos to go with those booties!

If you’ve taken notice of some fashion forward ladies this summer, then you have seen the emergence of what is going to stylishly take the world by storm this fall: military chic. If you’re picturing obnoxious camo and intense patchwork, you couldn’t be more mistaken. This style will be defined by the khaki colors and simple fabrics (canvas, cotton, leather, parachute) – all understated, but in no-nonsense silhouettes with some perfectly placed buttons.

Not too long ago we featured this Balmain collection, clearly ahead of its time Runway to Real Way – Balmain S/S 2010 Military Chic
