Oh. My. Lord. Every once in a while I am so captivated by a hot shoe that I am nearly rendered speechless. Nearly. The Nika Pumps by Rock & Republic are just such a pair. Those pewter colored studs and that gleaming, dangerous looking heel…I tell you, R&R has done everything right with this pair. They are stunning. No wonder why they’re gone.

UPDATE: This post has been updated on July 18, 2010. Scroll down to see the new adds.

Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE ankle boots and all, but over the last 2 years or so I’ve become kind of sick seeing them worn with everything. Especially on the red carpet where young starlets seem to think it’s so super cool and edgy to pair chunky booties with a white frilly lace dress. Yeah, no one’s done THAT before, try-hard. Most of those girls fail when it comes to carrying off such a contrasting look.

That’s why I really appreciate when shoe designers take a different direction with the ankle bootie trend and make them look less bulky and less in-your-face. The Jimmy Choos below are a perfect example for such booties. They’re modern yet subtle, but still feminine.

Liliana “Bandino” Studded Ankle Booties

These booties by Liliana are quite obviously a knockoff of the Jimmy Choos shown above. Don’t they look pretty awesome for $50 shoes? I think I even prefer these over the real Choos because of their rounder shape. Let alone the fact that of course I very much prefer their price which is way closer to my budget than the Choos. Another good thing: these booties also come in grey and purple (faux) suede.

Luichiny “Passa Fy” Booties

While these studded booties by Luichiny might not be as close to the originals as the Liliana ones, I think it’s still very easy to see the inspiration behind these. They don’t have the eyelets and the upper material is faux leather instead of suede, but everything else screams “JIMMY CHOO“! Also available in brown.

I am a girl who enjoys a high heel, but I’m going to come right out and say it: how does one walk around in these “Fabiana” Cork Ankle Boots by Hervé Léger? Oh, they are works of art, to be sure, but I could just see myself awkwardly teetering over in these until eventually my face and the pavement became friends. Of course the Fabianas are sold out, though. I imagine rich women everywhere bought them up by the armful, only to admire them sitting quietly in their closets.

HOT DEAL: Use our exclusive coupon code “INTHEIRCLOSET” for 10% OFF!

Now this is more like it. This is a high heel I can manage (albeit not for en extended period of time). See that thick platform in the front? That’s what makes these Luichiny babies more wearable than their architecturally unsound, although astoundingly beautiful Hervé Léger cousin. These platforms differ from the originals, but they have the same general feel. I also love that these have a peep-toe – mama just can’t seem to get enough of her peep-toe booties. Yes, yes, she knows that she will one day be looked back upon as a fashion disaster, but she lives in the moment! OK, back to the shoe. If natural isn’t your thing, these are also available in black and brown. And we have yet another deal for you, oh faithful readers: use our exclusive coupon code above and save yourself an additional 10% off the already reasonable price of $89.95.

I discovered Ash only last December when I was looking for the perfect knockoff of a pair of Martin Margiela sandals that I had been in love with for the better part of a year. Aptly enough, it was InTheirCloset that eventually led me to the Holy Land, so to speak. Ash shoes are really well made and definitely have a strong point of view. I love these “Lovely” Studded Wedge Sandals, for instance. I will say that they look more fall than summer to me, but there are already so many little outfits dancing in my head at the mere thought of owning these. The rich black is hot, as is the harness and studding. Here’s the thing, though: while Ash shoes are priced rather “reasonably”, they are still out of my sad little budget.

N.Y.L.A. “Placido” Stud Wedges

If you, too, have a mopey little budget, but love the look of the Ash wedge sandals, we may have found just the shoe. These “Placido” wedges by N.Y.L.A. look basically identical to the originals with a slightly less exaggerated heel. I’m fairly certain that once on no one would be able to tell the difference. I know there’s not a drastic difference in price, but just consider all the things you could buy with that extra hundo! Available in black and tan.

HOT DEAL: Save $15 on your $80 order of select statement-making women’s styles. Enter code “STATMNTI” at checkout.

Now here’s a slightly different take on the studded wedge, albeit an equally as ferocious one. These “Pass Ive” wedges by Luichiny boast a super high wedge and a cord bottom and we still have the awesome harness and the studs. Even more affordable than then the N.Y.L.A’s, these are also available in a ton of colors (and by ton I mean 4: black, grey, camel & cognac suede). Even better deal? Use the code mentioned above and save yourself another $15!

If you’re like me you sometimes look at your closet and wonder how in the world you managed to amass so many pairs of black shoes. Well then who are we to suggest you buy yet another pair? If you’re loving the look of the Ash wedges but were wishing for a different/more summer friendly color, then wish granted! I love the cognac color of these Liliana “Misana” Gladiator Studded wedges. It feels light for summer but rich for fall. And guess what? This is our cheapest pick of the bunch! These retail for only $26.99 but save yourself another $5.40 by entering the coupon code above!

Balmain is all the rage right now. It gets worn a lot these days. Their Spring 2009 collection was such a success! One of the most wanted items from that collection were the studded embellished stiletto sandals. They scream BADASS! After hitting the shelves of NET-A-PORTER (priced at breath-taking $2.300) the heels completely sold out within a day or two. If you can afford the real thing, I highly recommend you invest in them. If they are way out of your budget, no need to panic! I have found a bunch of good and affordable Balmain alternatives for you.

It’s quite rare to find a designer who does not only great clothes, but also great shoes. The genius that is Alexander McQueen certainly belongs into this category. I always look forward to what he’s coming up with season after season.

His shoe designs are sometimes crazy, sometimes painfully cute or edgy or just badass like these grommet slingback booties below. But they are always unique. There is ONE thing that bugs me about his shoes though: the PRICE, of course! Despite being on sale, you’d still have to shell out more than $600 to own these kickass heels. Sadly, this is no option for me.
