I am naturally not attracted to red—I have a total of three red pieces in my wardrobe. But when I saw the red suede Jimmy Choo Fire Cut-Out Ankle Boots like Fergie’s (below), I fell in love. Fire indeed! They are totally hot. There’s just something about all those stripes of skin peeking through.

Vince Camuto “Aphrodite” Sandals

Who doesn’t love a Choo shoe? I know no woman alive who’d deny herself the pleasure if her finances could enable the experience. If only. Since most of us can’t fill our closets with boxes by Jimmy Choo (and because the Fire Cut-Out Ankle Boots are sold out anyway) here’s a nice consolation prize: the “Aphrodite” by Vince Camuto. They aren’t 100% like the Choo version, but still a shapely and sexy pair. Available in black, nude and natural… and I’m loving the natural for all those military looks planned for spring.

Office “BASK IN GLORY” Cut-Out Booties

Also worthy of consideration are the “BASK IN GLORY” Cut-Out Booties by Office. Love this shoe for its Choo-like similarities (the buckle detail and opening at the ankle), and also for its daring differences (woven detail and trim). It’s also available in a delectable dark taupe that really showcases the lovely detail on these booties—you must click over to Office to see the 360-degree view. I’d even go so far as to say that I like the dark taupe better than the Choo booties. Now that speaks volumes, doesn’t it?

What happens when you cross two hot shoe trends like the wedge and the gladiator? You get the Giuseppe Zanotti I90107 Gladiator Wedges, of course. Giuseppe Zanotti has been cranking out some sensational shoes in the last couple of seasons, and although I’m not a huge fan of this look, this pair is very well done. They originally retailed for $705, and while they may be a couple hundred dollars less now, that’s still a considerable investment for a shoe that can only be worn during playtime, if you will.

Dollhouse “Bina” Wedge Sandals

UPDATE (05/28/2010): Another great and budget-friendly alternative to the original Zanottis are these wedge sandals by Dollhouse. Available in black or brown.

Kelsi Dagger “Juno” Wedge Sandals

UPDATE (06/10/2010): InTheirCloset reader Tex from Fashion Butter loved these Kelsi Dagger wedges so much she had her brother order them for her from the States, so she could flaunt them in beautiful Greece. Check out her blog to see how these Zanotti look-a-likes translate into real life and leave her a comment while you’re at it. Let’s just say I want a pair now, too! Thanks, Tex! :)

Wanna try the gladiator wedge look this spring? You should. There’s nothing better than fashion experiments, I say, and I don’t think you can go wrong with the “Juno” Wedge by Kelsi Dagger. It’s practically a twin of the higher-priced Zanotti wedge, and at under $150, not so hard on the wallet. Plus, doesn’t it look comfy? We all need a break from our arch-busting stilettos at some point.

Back in 2007 Mary-Kate Olsen stepped out on the red carpet to see Antony Micallef’s “Impure Idols” LA show debut and I was madly in love with her head-to-toe getup: the quilted leather jacket, the tousled out-of-bed hair and of course her black Balenciaga gladiator wedges. This is rocker meets uptown chic at its best. See my budget-friendly take on MK’s outfit below.

OK, so sometimes I kind of become obsessed with certain celebrity fashion items – mostly shoes. This summer it’s the uber gorgeous gladiator wedges first seen on Vanessa Hudgens by Cynthia Vincent. And I wasn’t the only one who fell in love with those summer heels as they sold out like really, really fast despite the hefty price tag of over $400.

Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent Luella Wedges

I spent the last weeks trying to track the wedges down as they’ve been requested a lot, but every online shop seemed to have run out of these. Except for one little secret boutique which I stumbled upon yesterday. There is one downside however. You can only pre-order the wedges and they won’t be shipped until the end of November. BUT – if you really like these sandals, you better order now before they sell out again. You most probably regret it sooner or later (happened to me several times :( ).

FYI: They sell the tobacco/cognac version only with a brown heelpj, but their nude version (not pictured) looks almost like Vanessa’s heels to me (maybe one shade lighter), so you can choose which version you prefer.

There is such a thing as the perfect pair of summer stilettos and I believe Azzedine Alaïa created them. Look at these darlings below: wouldn’t they look perfect with a yellow sundress or white capri pants? They used to retail for approx. $1.000 at Browns, but it seems like they have sold out recently.

Celebrities Love Azzedine Alaïa

Azzedine Alaïa is loved by the celebrity world, so it’s no surprise to see female celebrities flaunting his designs on a regular basis. Charlize Theron for example looks chic wearing her black Alaïa sandals with a black tunic dress while Katie Holmes took a more casual approach by pairing her tan version (my personal favorite!) with a plaid blouse and cuffed boyfriend jeans. Celine Dion went the sexy route and sexed up her silver metallic Alaïa heels with a micro mini pink Balmain dress.

Boutique 9 Vivacity Sandals

These Azzedine Alaïa knockoffs from Boutique 9 are pretty much spot on except for the heel which is a bit thicker and not quite as high as on the originals. However, they also retail for a lot, lot less, being currently marked down from $155 to $89.99. Also available in black leather.

Moul Style Gladiator Sandals

UPDATE #1: Just found another pair of Azzedine Alaïa gladiator sandal knockoffs which you can buy from YesStyle. The heel is thicker, but other than that they have the same look and feel as the Alaia sandals. Sorry for the crappy pic, you can see the shoes from other angles on YesStyle’s website.
