Cork

Alright. So a hippie I am not. I love luxe boho, but that’s about as far as I go. However I’m not so daft as to think that there wouldn’t be a number of freespirits out there who would love a pair of Bally Roxine Cork Platform Sandals. I’m sure they would look fantastic with a short summer shift, and they’re probably supercomfy. They originally retailed for (…guffaw…) $450, but even at half off, that’s a lot of dough to get your hippie on.

Cork heels seem so retro and yet so of-the-moment, don’t they? Exhibit A, these “Gaynor” heels by Brian Atwood. I’m a big fan of Brian Atwood, but these cork heels are especially amazing. The cork lends a casual spring-time feel while the black patent leather gives them a festive aura. Guaranteed to win you lots of compliments, these shoes are a must have. Oh, but what’s that? They’re upwards of $600 AND sold out? Well then why not try…

UPDATE (03/23/2010): Found a second steal version of the Brian Atwood sandals by Jeffrey Campbell. The heel is wooden instead of cork, but everything else is quite the same. Available in black and gold.

…these Nine West sandals? Almost an exact dupe for the Brian Atwood heels, these NW shoes will set you back only a fraction of the cost. All the details are there, from the platform to the chunky heel; from the patent leather to the delicate ankle strap. These come in an abundant amount of colors too (black, red, white and yellow patent) – perfect for every occasion!

Most people either hate or love cork shoes. I belong to the latter – most probably because my mom used to have a pile of 70s style cork wedges in her closet with which I used to play dress-up with when I was little, so I guess I am a bit biased here. Giuseppe Zanotti seems to be on the cork-loving side as well since he designed a bunch of cork platform heels last spring just like these beautiful black patent platform pumps. Simple yet intriguing.

Jessica Simpson “Taneala” Platform Pumps

If you can’t afford the real deal, these platform pumps by Jessica Simpson are an excellent and almost identical alternative. Endless is selling these in an array of different colors including a gorgeous red patent as well as gold, animal and zebra print.

Restricted “Wildcard” Platform Pumps

These platform pumps by Restricted are also a great and budget-friendly alternative if you want Giuseppe Zanotti 4 less. They aren’t patent and the cork platform is significantly lower than on the originals, but overall they’re still a good match I think. Available in black, tan, yellow and green.

Every year, weeks before the holidays I start dreaming up my perfect festive holiday outfit. I always try to incorporate some red, green and gold into it so I would look like I am part of the christmas tree decor. This year, I think I will go with an emerald green dress, gold accessories and red shoes. These red Giuseppe Zanotti cork platform pumps below would make the perfect shoes for my holiday outfit, but even though they’re on sale (original retail price $688) they’re still too pricey for me.

Nine West “Chocolata” Platform Pumps

If you’re trying to save some cash for the holidays, but don’t want to cut back on your style, try these red Nine West platform pumps instead. Yes, they replaced the shiny red patent leather with a basketweave textured upper, but everything else (the straps, shape and cork platform) is pretty much the same as on the real deal. They’re also so much cheaper and come in either red, black or blue.

Well, as you may or may not know I am happily addicted to shoes and one of my fave shoe designers is mastermind Giuseppe Zanotti whose designs never fail to amaze me. Half of my wish list consists of his creations and these nautical inspired cork platform sandals were on top of this list for at least half a year. They originally retailed for $695, but even though they’re on sale now they are a) not my size and b) still too expensive for me.

Now look at these babies by Nine West! Think you see double? No, you don’t. Nine West’s “Cawley” Sandals are an almost identical copy of the above shown Giuseppe Zanotti patriotic sandals. I was so excited when I spotted these amazing, budget-friendly alternative. They come so close to the originals it’s almost illegal. ;-) LOVE. LOVE. LOVE!
