Real vs. Steal – Chloé Glove Cork Wedges

by Velicia Hill on May 21, 2011

I’ve been in love with the Chloé brand for some time now. This may age me a bit, but I still have a few pieces that date back to the Stella McCartney era. Yes, for those of you born in the 80′s, Stella at one time was head designer for Chloé. But enough with Fashion History 101, let’s talk current events. How hot are these glove cork wedges? Um, VERY – a perfect summertime shoe. I have no clue who actually designs for Chloé now, but I can tell you, that everyone and their damn sister have purchased these wedges, because even at $795, they’re sold out! But you know what that means…

…We found a replica that retails for so much less and that fits like a glove (trust me, I have a pair)! What makes this steal by Riplay even more awesome, if you look real closely, it has a thong; when was the last time you saw a thong, a wedge & ankle strap all in one shoe? It is missing the cork, but for only $13.50 (after you use the discount code) plus FREE SHIPPING for a limited time, I say click now and get yourself a pair!

First off, a Happy New Year to all our lovely readers! We hope you’ve come to spend a fabulous New Year’s Eve. Alright, but now let’s get back to business. Shoe business. Despite the rather simple design of the Christian Louboutin platform espadrilles pictured below I still find myself to be quite enamored with these summer beauties. Funnily enough, these also happen to be on the lower price spectrum of a Louboutin (most Loubies start to retail at $795+), but even the rather “modest” price of $535 I simply cannot justify with my current budget. Well, a girl can dream…

Clearly these Coconuts by Matisse espadrille wedges are not as high as the Louboutins, but if you can look past this and the fact that they lack the superior quality of high-priced designer shoes, you’ll find an almost identical Loubie look-a-like with these. Avaiable in brown or black.

One of the most requested things are that we cover more non high heel shoes. Alas, this Real vs. Steal is for all you flat-loving fashionistas out there. These twisted Loeffler Randall sandals look like the perfect day-to-day companions for a short holiday getaway on the Caribbean islands. They’ll take you from day (sightseeing tours + beach) and still look good with a breezy cocktail frock at night. But $195 (sale price!) for a pair of flat shoes? Well, that’d pay a lot of margaritas…

Real vs. Steal – Ash Lotus Wedges

Some shoes need time to grow on me. Case in point: Acne’s Atacoma wedges. Or these strappy wedges by Ash. At first I thought they’d look clunky on, but then I saw Amber from Amber’s Notebook sporting them and quickly changed my mind. Too bad they’re all sold out now.

I have loved Chloé‘s Leather Lace-Up Wedge Boots since the moment I laid eyes on them. Leighton Meester wore them on an episode of Gossip Girl and I immediately scrambled to find out who they were by. Sort of ironic, really, because I actually think they’re almost bordering on ugly. They kind of look like bowling shoes on steroids; and yet I longed for them. There’s just something so chic about them, don’t you think? I recall Forever 21 came out with a knockoff, but they were gone in a hot second and sadly the originals are approximately $600 out of my budget. What’s a girl to do?

Coconuts by Matisse “Davis” Booties

Despite these “Davis” booties by Coconuts by Matisse being largely fabric, I think they’re a truly excellent knockoff of the Chloé boots. I mean, despite fabric and color they are practically identical. These are also available in black, but I think the dual-color is where it’s at. Wear with a mini skirt and look ever so fashion forward. And for only $83.95.

ASOS TASCA Suede Lace-Up Wedge Boots

OK, these “TASCA” lace-up wedge boots by ASOS may not be a perfect replica color-wise, but shape-wise they nailed it. We love the folded over flaps and texture on texture feel. Too bad they didn’t throw a little khaki in there, right? I see these looking great over skinny jeans or even with shorts and patterned tights. There’s something very rugged but also feminine about these wedges and that’s what I love. I’d probably go with the black color over the tan (yep, they’re available in black, too), but it’s your call.
