Budget Look – Cookie Monster Blue

by Irina on March 22, 2016

I’m usually not a big fan of faux fur jackets, but when I saw this cookie-monster blue concoction by n:PHILANTHROPYls (make sure to check out the rest of the collection, it’s amazing!), I was for some reason totally smitten and instantly had a thousand outfit ideas that revolved around this fluffy royal blue beauty of a jacket. One of these ideas was to pair it with a light knit pencil skirt, nude ankle boots and a matching funky handbag, so that’s what this “budget” look is all about. What do you think? Is this outfit a hit or miss?

To this date Manolo Blahnik‘s “Hangisi” Cobalt Blue Satin Pumps are still one of the most requested shoes for a Real vs. Steal post on this blog. Our inbox is filled with emails from women who asked us to find a budget-friendly alternative to Carrie Bradshaw’s beautifully blue Manolos in the 2008 Sex and the City movie. And while there are quite a few wonderful Hangisi look-alikes out there, many of them run either on the rather expensive side or are simply not available anymore, so I was super happy when I came across these vivid blue satin heels by ASOS because they’re the perfect blank canvas for a DIY Manolo Blahnik Hangisi shoe project. All you need – besides the ASOS shoes, of course – is a pair of sparkly shoe clips and you’re good to go! I happened to find a really cute version by this brand called Absolutely Audrey for $22.95 which will give you a very similar look to the Manolo Blahniks. The total price for this super basic DIY amounts to a little over $90 which is less than 1/10 of the real deal’s price. Now that’s what I call a real steal deal!

It’s mostly all about high end designer fashion here on this blog, but once in a while a trend is born right among us in the budget fashion sector. Case in point: these vividly blue Zara slingback high heel sandals. I feel like I’ve seen these strappy heels a thousand times on Instagram this year and I’ve been obsessed with them ever since I first saw them on the Zara website. They weren’t expensive at $79.90, but unfortunately these heels sold out so fast that many didn’t get a chance to buy them in the first place, me included. I then tried to hunt them down on eBayebay, but the asking prices of $100+ (for used shoes!) were absolutely ridiculous! So I was slowly coming to terms that I would have to let these beauties go. Luckily, I was wrong!

Dear Steve Madden, you had me at cobalt blue! And fringes are having a good year, too. Saint Laurent put them on shoes, jackets and skirts and Aquazzura created one of the most coveted shoes of the season with their fringed-out Wild Thing heels. That’s why you couldn’t possibly go wrong with these gorgeous blue fringe heels by Steve Madden (obviously, I’m partial to the cobalt blue version, but the yellow or the purple color would be an equally great choice). And while they’re not terribly expensive ($129!) compared to the super pricey designer shoes we regularly feature on this blog, we realize not everyone can spend that kind of money on such a trendy shoe. So imagine my delight when I came across these spot-on “Fringly” dupes by Candie’s which are currently on sale for a $44.99 at Kohl’s (down from $64.99 and also available in either blue or taupe faux suede).

I wouldn’t resist a bright blue heel even if I could (which I couldn’t, by the way, because I’m too much of a fangirl for anything cobalt blue). And especially not if this bright blue heel is one by Jimmy Choo. So naturally, I was instantly obsessed with Choo’s “Gladys” heel – a beautiful suede lace-up high heel sandal in a striking electric blue hue! The only thing I couldn’t get myself to like though? Yup, you guessed it – the price of $995!

Madden Girl “Raceyyy” Lace-Up Sandals

My personal Jimmy Choo Gladys dupe favorite would have to be these lace-up heels by Madden Girl. The blue is almost as vibrant as on the real deal and the (sale) price of $29.98 ain’t too bad either! Available in various colors such as blue, black, blush, coral and others.
