Blush Pink

Seems like we can’t catch a break from satin slides at the moment and to be honest with you: I don’t really mind! There’s just something so effortlessly chic about slipping into a pair of delicate satin mules, don’t you agree? A few days ago, I was looking through the newest arrivals at my favorite online shops when I saw a picture of Dolce Vita’s “Henry” Cross-Strap Satin Mules. The design seemed instantly familiar to me, but I couldn’t put my finger on the designer inspiration right away. So I kept on browsing while my brain was doing its usual shoe memory scanning process in the background. And suddenly it just hit me that the Dolce Vita design was a lovely hybrid of Gucci’s “Webby” High Heel Mule from last year and Gianvito Rossi’s “Barth” Sandal Slides which we have already featured here in a previous blog post. Copycat math has striked once again! And I must admit: $595 + $645 = $130 is exactly the kind of shopping math that I like!

After writing this blog for more than 9 years and scouring the internet for designer dupes even longer, I hardly raise an eyebrow anymore whenever I come across a budget brand or fast-fashion chain copying a high fashion designer. But when designers – with very similar price points – copy amongst each other? Baffling! Which is exactly how I felt when I recently stumbled upon a pair of frayed satin slides by Stuart Weitzman. I knew I had seen that same style somewhere before, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on where. So after a few days I have almost already forgotten about it when I accidentally saw the Gianvito Rossi‘s “Barth” Sandal which looks so much alike, they’re basically designer shoe twins. Both have the same design, the same details, the same fabric and the same color! The prices, however, are somewhat different, but still close enough together to be both considered luxury shoes with Rossi’s sandals costing $645 and Weitzman’s version being priced at $375. I can’t tell who is copying whom though since I don’t know who came out first with their shoe style. Anyway, both sandals are absolutely fabulous and right on trend with the soft pink tone and the silky satin upper, so you can either go with your personal preference or your bank account because style-wise it’s a close tie between these two.

Christmas is right around the corner and today I was in such a festive mood that I decided to create a wintery budget look to honor the coldest of seasons. But it wasn’t until I was finished and very proud of my creation that I noticed this black-white-blush winter outfit might not be exactly weatherproof for colder climates (hello, backless loafers and sheer mesh body!). So instead of ditching the whole look and starting all over again, I simply decided to rename the outfit theme from “Winter Wonderland” to “Californian Winter Wonderland”. Pure genius, I know. But anyways: Happy Holidays, everyone! I hope you will be able to enjoy a relaxed and joyful Christmas with all your loved ones! And now step away from your computer and treat yourself to a Christmas cookie or two.

I know many of you are already preparing for the fall season (fashion-wise and mentally), but I’m not quite done with summer yet. Especially not with summer’s soft and fun side: light, pastel color palettes, sleeveless tops, short shorts and naked toes. Oh how I’m gonna miss all that in the next 6-9 months! So before I can dive into fall fashion, I had to kiss summer goodbye with one last imaginary outfit. What do you think? Do you like it?

Obsession of the Day – Blush Beauty

by Irina on June 14, 2015

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with soft, flesh-toned colors such as blush pink. There’s something so quintessentially feminine about that color that makes me want to turn my wardrobe into an altar for everything blush. So when I happened to come across this gorgeous nude-colored draped jersey skirt by Rachel Pally, I simply had to create a blush-toned look around it. I went full on matchy-matchy with this outfit which might be a bit too much for some, but I totally love it. Do you?
