I’m so glad the Hervé Léger overexposure has stopped. There was a time when I was just sick and tired of seeing all those bodycon bandage dresses on every red carpet. The HL revival wave started somewhen in 2007 and while my taste in fashion has changed a lot since then, I’m still smitten with the more classic designs from this fashion house.

Now this really puzzled me at first. Because normally bebe sexes up all of their knockoffs whereas here they rather toned this naturally very sexy dress down which I so prefer over the original. bebe’s dress is considerably longer and the cleavage looks a lot more demure, too. Good job on this one, bebe! A sexy yet classy LBD. And quite affordable if I might add.

In one of the Gossip Girl episodes called “The Grandfather”, Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) wore an unusually sexy, figure-hugging Hervé Léger bandage mini dress with white criss cross inlays. However, Blair’s risqué dress was tamed with a cute beige embellished Joie cardigan and a cute nautical Tomassini necklace.

Real vs. Steal – Alexander Wang Fitted Combo Dress

Alexander Wang is arguably the master of rock grunge. His clothes are exquisitely designed but also have a downtown edge. So leave it to Wang to create a LBD that is equal parts East-Village and Red-Carpet. A nude under layer hints at skin without actually showing any and a sweetheart neckline adds…well, sweetness. I’ll tell you what isn’t sweet, though: that price tag. Oh, and did we mention it’s also sold out? Sit tight, though, we just might have something for you…

Topshop Bandage Ruch Bandeau Dress

Topshop‘s “Bandage Ruch Bandeau Dress” might not be a dead-ringer for the Alexander Wang dress above, but by golly it’s darn close. I might even argue that it’s better. I’m really enjoying the thicker bands of fabric that are strategically placed over the hip and bust area. Of course we still have that hint of a sweetheart neckline and the mini-length and at $90 ($90!) this really is a steal. I predict this one will sell out fast.

Real vs. Steal – Hervé Léger Josephine One-Shoulder Foil Dress

Hervé Léger has made a big comeback in recent seasons (now with BCBG designer, Max Azria at its helm), truly pioneering the hugely popular “body-con” dress. A trend defined by its bandage, super-tight frocks, it’s sort-of ironic to think that “body-con” stands for “body-conscious”. Somehow, however, Hervé Léger dresses manage to flatter a woman’s body, hugging and sucking in, in all the right places (just look at how amazing that Saks model looks below!). Lamentably, while I’d love to own one of his creations, I’d have to sell a kidney to make it happen.

Express to the rescue! We discovered this little number on the fabulous, like-minded site, The Look 4 Less. Express usually wouldn’t be the first place I’d turn to in search of a knockoff dress, however they HAVE been in the sexy-dress business for a long time and they happen to have really nailed it with their Metallic One-Shoulder Banded Dress. With a fabulous shape and beautiful golden-nude color, this garment is a great knockoff of the Hervé Léger original and for less than $80 this is a dress I can actually afford.
