Asymmetrical

Alexander Wang presented his Pre-Fall 2010 collection a few days ago and I have to admit I’m not impressed. Ever since his glorious Spring and Pre-Fall 2009 collections he just couldn’t live up to my expectations. Maybe Fall 2010 will reignite my love for his designs. Until then I’ll have to keep on drooling over his past creations, one of which is this beautifully draped asymmetrical jersey dress from his Pre-Fall 2009 collection. So simple yet so stylish.

ASOS Twisted Slinky One Shoulder Dress

UPDATE (04/15/2010): ASOS has a dress which is quite reminiscent of the Alexander Wang LBD. It’s more body-con and drapes to the other side, but overall is still a good match I think. Available in 7 different colors.

When I wrote about Selena Gomez wearing an ASOS dress to the GRAMMY Nominations Concert back in December many of you seem to have found interest in Selena’s dress which is now long gone & totally sold out. And since I still get a lot of requests and traffic on this specific Selena look I decided to recreate her head-to-toe look on a budget look basis. I found a great and budget-friendly dress alternative coming from New Look, a UK fast fashion chain. They have very decent worldwode shipping fees (shipping to the US comes in at £7.50 which equals ~$12), so I decided to include it. And I also came across these fab Zanotti chiffon bow look-a-likes, but you have to be fast to snag a pair at LuLu*s because sizes keep selling out there.

For dresses I tend to stick to classic, streamlined silhouettes. I like dresses that accentuate a woman’s body rather than hide it under layers of fabric or baggy shapes. That’s why I’m madly in love with these sleek one shoulder dresses by LuLu*s. I love both colors and at $38 only you could contemplate picking up both!

I’ve heard tell that color is huge this spring/summer (but I mean, really, when is it not?) and everything I’ve seen in the fashion mags/internet blogs has confirmed as much. Tis the year of color, my friends, and who better to interpret that trend than Rebecca Taylor. She is the queen of whimsical, feminine silhouettes and soft, draped fabrics. Taylor’s Asymmetrical Occasion Dress is right on trend with a ruffle-trimmed one-shoulder neckline and bright & playful tangerine color. It is the perfect dress for those summer evening parties. But (and you knew this was coming) it’s fairly pricey at $325.

LuLu*s Divine Approval Dress

LuLu*s has really become one of our top go-to retail sites for designer-inspired clothing and this is why. Their Divine Approval dress is a great knockoff of the Rebecca Taylor number above. I can already tell this delectable coral color will look smashing with a tan, but for those of you who favor the cooler end of the spectrum, they also have an emerald color available. But really, for $33, why not just pick up both?

How come that whenever I see Kristen Stewart hitting the red carpet it seems like she’s the unhappiest person in the world? I mean, I get that she’s the kind of celebrity who is very protective of her privacy, but c’mon, when you’re walking the red carpet it is an official event, so please put on a nice smile and let us mortals envy you in your super fancy and expensive Valentino dress and to-die-for Brian Atwood satin pumps. Too bad KStew rarely smiles because she’s amazingly pretty when she’s not wearing her grumpy face.
