Shoes

Can we talk about this summer’s hottest footwear trend for a minute? Colorful, charm-embellished Pom Pom lace-up sandals. You’ve probably seen them all over Instagram already and now that summer is approaching, the trend is slowly emerging on the streets as well. It first started with Aquazzura and Dolce & Gabbana I think; both houses came out with colorful Pom Pom shoes recently. Shortly after the “Penny Lane” lace-up gladiators by Elina Linardaki became a huge success and have started popping up on everyone’s fashion feed. And why wouldn’t they? Each pair is handmade in Greece and contrary to the likes of Aquazzura and Dolce & Gabbana, you don’t have to spend an arm or a leg to flaunt this summer’s hottest “It“-shoe.

Chinese Laundry “Posh” Embellished Lace-Up Sandals

If spending $200 on the Pom Pom trend seems unreasonable to you and if you’re too lazy to DIY your own version, here’s a lovely and budget-friendly alternative by Chinese Laundry which will give you the same playful vacation look for less than $80. You better hurry though because these sandals are selling by the minute.

P.S.: Also available at ShoeMallls, South Moon Under, Amazonamazon, Dillard’sls, Chinese Laundry & LuLu*s.

Steve Madden “Cailin” Embellished Lace-Up Flat Sandals

These embellished lace-up sandals by Steve Madden are another great, but more toned down alternative of the Pom Pom lace-up sandal. If you like the basic design concept of these, but really want those Pom Poms poppin’ on your sandals, consider adding a couple of craft store-bought Pom Pomsamazon (cost: less than $10).

Mabu by Maria BK Embellished Leather Sandals

Now these Pom Pom lace-up sandals by Mabu by Maria BK won’t give you any price advantage compared to the Elina Linardaki version, but they are just as beautiful and I wanted to include these in case the Penny Lane sandals sell out and a suitable quality alternative will be needed.

Schutz “Patricia” Embellished Lace-Up Flat Gladiator Sandals

Last but not least are these super cute and playful lace-up flat sandals by Schutz. They’re missing the dangling Pom Poms, but as I wrote above, you can easily add them yourself, so if you prefer the conceptual design of these not so steal-worthy $190 Schutz shoes, consider opting for these instead.

Gianvito Rossi is slowly but surely taking my heart by storm with his shoe collections! I can’t remember anyone of his shoe styles lately that I wasn’t fond of. This woven multi-strap sandal, for instance, I like it a lot. It’s a couple of seasons old already, so I couldn’t find many details on it, but I’m pretty sure it would’ve been out of my price range anyway.

LuLu*s Stillness is the Move Faux Suede Caged Heels

Update (05/24/2016): Spotted these budget-friendly Gianvito Rossi look-alikes at LuLu*s today. They come in either fuchsia, nude or black faux suede and cost $36.

Forever 21 Braided Faux Suede Sandals

Apparently Forever 21 liked Rossi’s woven sandal concept, so they came up with a neat dupe version of their own. F21 ditched the bronzey metallic color and instead opted for more wearable colors, as well as a much nicer price tag, of course.

There’s nothing like having a nude pair of shoes to slide into during the warmer times of the year! It’s such a great color especially when it comes in patent and the color is so versatile it can go with TONS of stuff! So, you can see why these Jimmy Choo Phyllis Espadrille Slides are absolutely noteworthy to be featured! I can’t wait to have my ice cold drink next to the pool while admiring my feet with these bad boys on! Yet, retailing at $375 this might break the bank for some, so here is a more affordable option…

Schutz Slide Platform Wedge Sandals

Update (05/17/2016): Just stumbled upon another spot-on Jimmy Choo Phyllis wedge look-alike today! It’s by Schutz, comes in either black or white patent leather and is currently on sale for $63.

J. Litvack “Malta” Espadrille Wedge Slides

Update (05/01/2014): Discovered another Jimmy Choo inspired espadrille wedge! Check out these wedge slides by J. Litvack. They’re not quite as high as the Jimmy Choos, but the look is still very similar to the real deal. Available in black and nude patent leather for $82.95.

Steve Madden “Genisis” Espadrilles

This Steve Madden version has a slightly thicker band and a higher platform than the Jimmy Choo version, which I’m sure not everyone will complain about! And the price isn’t too bad either! Available in nude, black and red patent.

I’m one of those people who-when traveling through airports-will always wear heels (you never know if Mr. Right is flying the friendly skies as well). I can’t always do a 5 inch towering platform though; that’s why this leopard wedge by Mr. Christian Louboutin is perfect for such occasions! Some style and height to go along with a comfy and simple yet sexy outfit. My travel companion? A stiff drink and pretzels instead of peanuts, please. No thank you, Miss, I’d wear my “Peanuts”, not eat them. ūüėČ

Kate Spade New York “Amory” Round Toe Wedge Pumps

Update (05/15/2016): Just spotted another Christian Louboutin Peanut alternative! This calf hair animal print wedge by Kate Spade is surely not a steal at $350, but it is still $495 (!) cheaper than the real deal, so I had to add them to the list.

Talbots “Porsha” Leopard Haircalf Wedges

Update (08/27/2015): Didn’t really expect to find another Louboutin Peanut dupe after such a long time, but doesn’t “Porsha” by Talbots look strangely familiar to you?

Ivanka Trump Linear3 Leopard Wedge Pumps

The designers at Ivanka Trump have virtually copied the Loubutin “Peanut” down to its shell! I must admit I do like the leopard print better on this one and I’m completely nutty about the $150 price tag.

Today we want to try a new feature here on InTheirCloset: »Splurge or Save?«. While doing our research for the Real vs. Steal posts, we often stumble upon very similar items that have varying price points, but are too close together by price to really fit into the Real vs. Steal section, so that’s why we came up with the »Splurge or Save?« category, where you can decide by poll whether you’d rather splurge or save on a certain item. And the first edition of »Splurge or Save?« starts off with pointy nude pumps and tan buckle sandals. The possible savings here add up to $175 for the nude pumps and $87 for the tan buckle sandals. What do you think? Which items would you save on and where would you go all out and rather splurge instead? Tell us in the comments!
