Stella McCartney

So who would’ve thought polka dots could be that sexy? Apparently, Stella McCartney did, that’s why she gave us plenty of beautiful fitted dresses with sheer polka dot sleeves for Fall 2011. I love the risqué character of the sheer inlays combined with the playfulness of the polka dots. How friggin’ hot does Kate Winslet look in that dress? But whoah, more than $2k for that bit of dress? Sorry hun, I’m afraid that ain’t quite my price league.

Stella McCartney is one of those designers that has a cult following. Those who are fashionably loyal to her are fiercely loyal. If you’re one of those people, then what better way to wear your heart on your feet than to nab a design that Stella herself wears? The shoes have so many great qualities, but number one in my mind is that cork matches everything, making them a go-to in any closet.

UPDATE (05/30/2014): After 4 years after the last find, we managed to find this wedge cork sandal by ALDO which is a great alternative to the Stella McCartney wedges above, don’t you agree?

Jeffrey Campbell Cork Suede Buckle Sandals

Jeffrey Campbell brings us a true steal. Not only is their cork wedge a great match at a better price, but it’s also partially environmentally friendly since cork is a sustainable material. Pair them with jeans, shorts, skirts and dresses for a casually cool summer ensemble.

Stella McCartney has a way of making a simple black dress as eye-catching as any other dress in the room. And this dress is no exception. It’s a classic silhouette, but the way it’s cut in at the sides and belted is very modern and unexpected. Brooklyn and Gwyneth both wear this dress spectacularly, but as a brunette, I’d wear it with a sleek ponytail, smokey eyes, nude lips, and very little jewelry. You only need a beautiful cuff or cocktail ring and perhaps some sleek drop earrings. If you can’t afford this designer gown, but really love the style, consider the pieces we’ve put together below to create a similar look.

McBerry Optical Illusion Gown & Mettle “The Bold & The Beautiful” Belt

Up close, the look may seem different; but when you wear it in a darkened room, the optical illusion is just fantastic. This dress by McBerry does work better on fairer skin, but it’s just an idea of how you can create the same strong shape with a design that covers more skin (makes you look super toned) and pay a lot less. You can wear it as is, or add this gold belt by Mettle to kick up the glam factor. The belt is also a versatile accessory you can wear with a solid-colored cocktail dress and instantly make it look both luxurious and unique.

Unique prints and futuristic designs such as these holographic pumps by Stella McCartney are making a big impression this season. They are untraditional with a shiny-like hue due to the fusion of multiple colors making the shoe appear multidimensional and digitally enhanced. These pumps give off quite the cool vibe because they are so unusual and feature an extraordinary concept. Although these heels may not be the typical go-to shoe, the neutral silver tone lends itself well with being paired with multiple colors and patterns. For an affordable look-a-like, check out the pumps below.

Forever 21 Pointed Hologram Pumps

For an ultra-shiny and futuristic-looking shoe, the Forever 21 Pointed Hologram Pumps are the perfect addition to one’s footwear collection. Priced at $16.99, these pumps are very affordable, especially in comparison with the designer version. Although this silvery colored version is very wearable and mimics the designer heels above most closely in color, these pumps are also available in rose metallic and gunmetal. The gunmetal hue is a bit more edgy while the rose metallic features a romantic light pink hue which isn’t overly girly, but is rather chic with a touch of femininity.

Stella McCartney obviously was inspired by citrus fruits for her S/S 2011 collection because several of the pieces from the collection had this distinctive lemons/oranges/lime print. I admit it kind of reminded me of my Grandma’s kitchen curtains at first, but with the right accessories (waist belt & wooden bangles!) and attitude (I-so-don’t-care-what-you-think-of-my-outfit!) I think this dress could be rocked & rocked well. However, I don’t quite see myself shelling out more than $800 for such a difficult dress; plus, let’s just say the shape of this dress is… improvable.

Update (05/06/2013): Found another Stella McCartney inspired fruit-print dress. This fruity little number by Necessary Clothing is super budget-friendly at $19.99. Steal deal alert!

Limited Edition White Lemon Print Dress

So this summer dress by Limited Edition might not be a dupe for the Stella McCartney dress because it has a different shape and a slightly different fruit print, but the inspiration behind this dress is clearly visible I think. And shhhht, but in this case I prefer the steal dress because a) it’s so much more affordable and b) because the shape is much more flattering to a woman’s body. Dorothy Perkins ships worldwide btw (shipping to the US is £7.50 only).
