I feel so sorry for shoeaholics of times gone by. If only they could have lived to see the unparalleled creativity of shoe design today. Never before in history have there been so many truly unique, funky hybrids, like the Cut-Out Boots by Maison Martin Margiela. What a belle of a boot! Part demure d’Orsay, part go-go boot. This is a pair that was made for walkin’. I wish they’d walk right on up to my front door.

Schutz “Pitoca” Cut-Out Tall Boots

Update (08/13/2015): Just discovered these super sexy cut-out boots by Schutz and thought they’d be a great alternative to the Margiela boots above. Plus, they’re deeply discounted right now ($84, down from $260). When’s boot season again?

Matiko “Kiari” Boots

Like most shoe addicts, when I see a pair like the MMMs above that are as much art form as they are shoe, and I can’t have them, I feel a little pang of despair. Then I remember that it is a consumer’s world, and there is almost always a replica to be had. Like the Matiko “Kiari” Boots. Not a d’Orsay like the MMMs, but, whoa—they are some serious statement-makers. Get ’em ‘fore they go, ladies!

The curved heel has been making its appearance quite often among stylish footwear lately, adding a futuristic yet minimalistic flair. Not to spare, Maison Martin Margiela brings us a common yet inspiring open toed bootie with a twist. His take on such a popular silhouette makes this design so easy to wear; the versatility goes on without an end just like the price tag. Beautiful, yes, but also extremely pricey. That’s why we have a steal below that is just as gorgeous as it is affordable!

Designer capsule collections never really bothered me, mostly because I found most items to be way too overpriced and . Maison Martin Margiela x H&M was no different for me. I know many consider Margiela to be a fashion visionary, but I finnd most of his clothes simply unwearable. It’s just not my style. However, I always used to have a soft spot for his shoe line and the shoes from Margiela’s capsule collection for H&M really resonated with me. My absolute favorite style were the wedge booties with the lucite wedge heel which shouldn’t come as a surprise since I have made a very similar shoe style my “Heel of the Day“-pick back in September 2010. But $350 for a pair of H&M shoes? Uh, thank you, but no, thank you!

Choies Wedge Heel Boots with Transparent Heels

HOT DEAL: Use promo code “20LUCKYAPR” to get 20% OFF your order! Ends 04/30/13.

While I think $171.99 is still quite a lot of money for an H&M-quality item, these lucite heel wedge booties by Choies which look almost identical to the Margiela x H&M wedges are still about 50% cheaper and made of real leather, too, just like the real Margielas. Plus, you can save another 20% with the promo code above which cuts down the price to a reasonable $137.59 (the store offers free worldwide shipping, too). Now that’s a deal, right?

With Maison Martin Margiela it’s always hit or miss for me. Either I absolutely adore his shoes or I am totally turned off by them. These studded wedge booties fall into the first category. I love the illusion wedge, it looks so cute and clever, don’t you think? But would I be willing to shell out $885 for them? No, not really.
