So I think this is the first time, after more than 3 years of writing this blog, that I feature a sneaker here on In Their Closet. Of course, it couldn’t be just any ordinary sneaker for this occasion, no, it had to be a “fashion sneaker” naturally, the most popular one being the “Bekket” velcro sneaker by Madame Isabel Marant at this time. Personally, I both like and hate them; I’ve never been too fond of sporty looking shoes, but these exude that cool kid vibe and how clever is the hidden built-in wedge? Genius.

I know summer is almost over when I find myself starting to look for shoes to wear in the fall. These studded ankle booties called “Otway” by Isabel Marant have been on my wish list for months now, but as with most of the things on my wish list, they are way out of my budget let alone the fact that they aren’t even out yet.

UPDATE (10/05/2009): Look at this knockoff version by Rosegold and try to spot the difference between this one and the Isabel Marant boots. These booties are as close as you can get to the original.However, a knockoff this great comes at a price: $285. Yup, that’s pretty expensive, but probably still at least a few hundred dollars cheaper than the original. If you have the cash, why not spend it on these awesome knockoffs?

Kudos to Jeffrey Campbell for always finding the right shoes to knock-off. Someone over there is doing his/her homework. Their “Us” studded booties are obviously a tribute to Isabel Marant’s booties. I just wish the heel would look more like the original. Available in black suede or black leather.

Steve Madden seems to have sniffed a trend here as well and decided to make their own interpretation of the ankle booties. The heel of their booties is higher and brown instead of black, but everything else is pretty much identical. Comes also in brown suede.

Real vs. Steal – Isabel Marant Poppy Suede Pumps

Kitten heels and pointed toes are usually NOT what turns me on about a shoe, but strange enough I think it totally works on these red suede kitten pumps by Isabel Marant. Maybe it’s the lavishly tied bow or the red suede or maybe that they look so French. But I do like these. A lot. Others, including a flood of Hollywood celebs, seem to favor these heels as well since the Poppy pumps have sold out rather quickly online. I especially like how Hilary Duff wore these with a grey tank and rolled up skinny jeans.

I’m stumped. At a total loss for words. And for someone who loves to gab this is truly rare! Why the muteness? I can’t decide if I’m feeling this Isabel Marant pointy elf-ish looking boot or not. Did Santa’s helpers call and want their boots back? Seriously, change the colors to red & green and it’s starting to look a lot like Christmas! Hey, it may just be me though. I haven’t been aware of fashion designer Isabel Marant for quite a long time, but ever since I saw Sienna Miller donning an awesome pair of killer stud booties by the French designer, I knew this had to change. The clothes she designs are really great, but her shoes are where it’s really at for me. Case in point: the chain-wrapped slouchy suede boots from her Spring 2009 collection which have been lusted after by fashion connoisseurs around the world.

Jeffrey Campbel “Third” Suede Chain Boots

Jeffrey Campbell might not deserve a creativity award for his work since most of his styles are based on some other designer’s shoes, but I have to give kudos to him for being a great trendspotter. He picks up on trends when most high street retailers still replicate stuff from last season. These chain boots are an almost identical copy of the original Isabel Marant boots. They are not the cheapest at $244.95, but since the originals cost about $1300, they are still a great budget-friendly alternative.
