These buckled ankle boots were designed by shoe design genius Giuseppe Zanotti for the hottest brand in Fashionville right now, Balmain, for their Fall 2009 footwear range. I wasn’t really a fan of this collection until I saw these badass rocker booties. My only problem: finding the pocket change to afford these. Sigh!

Judging by all the Real vs. Steal posts that cover shoes I think it’s safe to say that I’m a total shoe addict. I get a lot of emails with requests to identify shoes worn by celebrities and I am now debating whether I should be worried about the fact that I’m almost always able to recognize them. These Giuseppe Zanotti open-toe booties (RRP: $999) for example were quite easy to id because of all the unique details. Saw them and instantly knew the designer!

Michael Antonio “Misty” Ankle Boots
OK, I know these booties by Michael Antonio look slightly different because of the higher shaft, the stiletto shaped heel and the extra layer underneath the grommets, but it’s SO easy to see where the inspiration for these came from. They probably added the extra layer only because they wanted to release this bootie for the fall/winter collection. If you like the Giuseppe Zanottis, but don’t have the $$$ to splurge, these budget-friendly booties are a good investment.

You know when you wear an outfit and someone tells you that you look great and “that’s totally your color“? Well, someone needs to tell Hayden Panettiere that. Pastel pink looks fantastic with her skin tone and hair color. The shoes and bag give the otherwise sweet dress an edgier look that is definitely not matchy matchy. Snaps to Hayden and her stylist!

It was 2002 and I was a college student flipping through the pages of a fashion magazine. That’s when I first fell in love with Giuseppe Zanotti. The heels had a fairytale-esque butterfly perched on the ankle. It has been 8 years and I’ve doodled hearts next to many equally as beautiful shoes by the same designer. This stunning pair is less fairytale and more understated vixen in black with simple gold accents. Since every closet needs a bit of variety, these definitely work for me!

Dollhouse “Esina” Sandals
If the vixen in you wants to come out, but she’s on a budget – tell her that Dollhouse is making it possible. The “Esina” sandals feature the same upper criss-cross straps and metallic gold detailing. They come in either black, blue or pink and at slightly less than $50 these will earn their cost very quickly.

Animal prints. They can be a dangerous thing for women; nothing spells C-R-A-Z-Y like too much print on your person or in your house. But sometimes you can’t blame a girl for not being able to get enough, because all that tiger, and zebra, and cheetah…oh my! There’s just something about it that makes you feel exotic and wild.
Animal Print Heels – Designer Edition
You know here at InTheirCloset, we love you ladies, and we want to help all of you put your best foot forward. Especially one shod in a Wang Alla wedge—the only exception to the one print, one piece rule. Since prints are quite potent, the easiest way to ensure sartorial success is to limit that zip of zebra to your shoes. So we’ve rounded up the leaders of the designer pack, for your inspiration and fascination…

I know we have quite a few Giuseppe Zanotti fans here; this one’s for you. While many of us are gaga over espadrilles this spring (and summer), others of us are not quite prepared to say bye bye to our hardware. Zanotti is a master at designing uber-sexy, embellished shoes and that’s evident in his I90210 Studded Strappy Sandals. If you’d rather look Barbarella than Barbie I recommend you look into these heels. You’ve also gotta have money to spare though; these will set you back about $580.

Carlos by Carlos Santana “Perfect” Sandals
If you’re not ready to seriously commit to the studded/strappy trend, then perhaps these “Perfect” sandals by Carlos by Carlos Santana (so aptly named!) are right for you. They are extraordinarily similar to the Zanottis but only cost a fifth of the price.

Are you a Giuseppe Zanotti fan? If so, I bet you’re drooling over these I90188 Zipper Sandals, and why wouldn’t you? They’re a little daring, with the zipper and decorative hardware, but still tame enough to sport with trousers in the office—or anywhere, for that matter. Originally $750, they are now available at a discount, but I’m not sure the average shopper is willing to plunk down more than $400 for them. Cute, but 400 bucks worth of cute?

BCBGeneration “Taina” Sandals
So about the $400+ I mentioned above? You’ll only need a quarter of it for these BCBGeneration “Taina” Sandals that look so much like the Zanotti pair. With all that money still in your purse, guess cocktails are on you tonight, right?

What happens when you cross two hot shoe trends like the wedge and the gladiator? You get the Giuseppe Zanotti I90107 Gladiator Wedges, of course. Giuseppe Zanotti has been cranking out some sensational shoes in the last couple of seasons, and although I’m not a huge fan of this look, this pair is very well done. They originally retailed for $705, and while they may be a couple hundred dollars less now, that’s still a considerable investment for a shoe that can only be worn during playtime, if you will.

UPDATE (05/28/2010): Another great and budget-friendly alternative to the original Zanottis are these wedge sandals by Dollhouse.

Kelsi Dagger “Juno” Wedge Sandals
UPDATE (06/10/2010): InTheirCloset reader Tex from Fashion Butter loved these Kelsi Dagger wedges so much she had her brother order them for her from the States, so she could flaunt them in beautiful Greece. Check out her blog to see how these Zanotti look-a-likes translate into real life and leave her a comment while you’re at it. Let’s just say I want a pair now, too! Thanks, Tex!
Wanna try the gladiator wedge look this spring? You should. There’s nothing better than fashion experiments, I say, and I don’t think you can go wrong with the “Juno” Wedge by Kelsi Dagger. It’s practically a twin of the higher-priced Zanotti wedge, and at under $150, not so hard on the wallet. Plus, doesn’t it look comfy? We all need a break from our arch-busting stilettos at some point.

Are these Giuseppe Zanotti jeweled sandals gorrr-jusss or what? I can just imagine them on a bride at a seaside wedding, or with a flowing caftan, with a summery cocktail in hand. They’re just so feminine and I love that they’re jeweled, but with a bit of an earthy feel. But $1.075? That’s practically the cost of a plane ticket to the coastal paradise where I imagine myself wearing these beauties.

In keeping with the hugely popular gladiator theme that came about over a year ago, Giuseppe Zanotti has created the I90265 Studded Strappy sandal. I really do love this kind of shoe as a juxtaposition to a white summery dress or you can even go all out and pair them with a black mini. The studs add a little extra somethin’ if you want to wear them to a more dressy affair. I’m not too keen on the price, though, especially not for a sandal as trendy as this one.

Vince Camuto “Wendy” Sandals
Vince Camuto has come out with an exact copy of the Giuseppe Zanotti sandals – the “Wendy”. From the zipper back, to the crossed straps, to the square studs, to the buckle detailing, these are exactly like their big sister, but at a quarter of the price! These sandals are the perfect way to try out the trend without breaking the bank.
