Christian Louboutin

Colorblocking is the “it thing” to do this summer. I’ve written about it quite often now, constantly referring to Gucci’s S/S 2011 collection, but I’ve never actually gotten around to show a few colorblocking examples from the shoe department. So here you go. This is colorblocking à la Christian Louboutin. These tricolored slingback pumps are a fun way to spruce up a monochrome outfit and a safe way to colorblock on a small scale. Too bad I don’t have the funds to go all out on a pair of Loubies… right now.

Chinese Laundry “Mondrian” Colorblock Slingback Pumps

So the “Mondrian” heel by Chinese Laundry isn’t patent and has a peep-toe, but the colorblocking is spot on! It’s a great alternative to test drive the colorblocking trend all while staying within the budget. Also available in all-black, by the way.

Let’s talk about red. Red gets you noticed. It sucks up all the attention in a room, wanted or not, and pinpoints it all on the wearer. Dita von Teese knows that. No one rocks red as good as Dita, don’t you agree? Just look at this immacutely styled outfit! That’s how the Queen of Burlesque goes shopping by the way. Le sigh! It sure did take me a while to have the guts to rock a flaming red dress but now I already own 3 red dresses and am never going back to not wearing red. Go ahead, flaunt a sexy red dress and notice the difference.

I’m pretty sure these Christian Louboutin heels will polarize. You either love or hate them! There’s no question about these being borderline fetish; many refer to these extreme platform pumps as “stripper heels” which is also kind of true since they do have a heavy resemblance with the footwear strippers usually wear, only I do think these have a lot more class. We received a few requests from our readers who asked us to find a budget-friendly alternative, so keep on reading to get your Louboutin fix 4 less. Feel free to chime in on whether you think these are a do or a don’t.

Carvela “Active” Platform Pumps

UPDATE (06/02/2011): Just stumbled upon these super fab platforms by UK shoe brand Carvela. I think they’re a great alternative if you’re craving the Louboutin look. Available in black or nude patent.

Bordello by Pleaser Teeze-07 Platform Pumps

These Bordello by Pleaser platform pumps have been around way longer than the Louboutins, so maybe Louboutin took his inspiration from these rather than the other way round? They are borderline stripperish (more so if you consider all the other shoe styles from this line), but now that Louboutin has made stripper heels red carpet acceptable you might get away wearing these. Available in 17 (!) different colors, materials & finishes. Sequined, lace-covered, glittered… basically anything your heart could wish for.

Chinese Laundry “Keep It Real” Platform Pumps

These Chinese Laundry heels have a few differences, but I’m still pretty sure Louboutin’s Lady Daf heels were the inspiration to these platforms. The platform here is super sick, right? Available in black or white.

Whenever I see these delicate Christian Louboutin lace slingbacks I have to think of lingerie. Sexy lingerie for your feet, that is. And I know good quality lingerie comes at a price (my favorite bra had cost over $120 and lasted me more than 5 years), but $795 for a shoe you can only wear on special occasions? Well, Mr. Louboutin, I guess I’ll have to pass this time.

Martinez Valero “Oscar” Lace Slingback Pumps

So I realize these lace slingbacks by Martinez Valero miss one of the most dominant features – the bow – to be really considered a proper Louboutin knockoff, but if you don’t belong to the most patient people and just can’t wait another 2-3 months (my estimated timeframe for this design to trickle down to the copycat brands) for a more exact Loubie look-a-like to pop up, these here are probably your best bet. And besides, if you’re really into the bow you might want to do a DIY-project out of these (assuming you’re one of those crazy crafties! ;-)). These come in black, ivory and nude.

Leave it to Christian Louboutin to take a simple, sweet ballerina flat and make it sexy—and subversive. There’s nothing about the Big Kiss Flat I don’t like, from the gleaming black patent, to the spiky silver studs. Well, truth be told, there are a couple tiny problems with these shoes: the typically high Louboutin price tag, and the fact that although they debuted in the Resort 2010 collection, they’re already sold out.

Steve Madden “KAISAR” Studded Flats

Since Louboutin’s Big Kiss is not only pricey, but just about impossible to acquire, you can get your good girl/bad girl fill with the Steve Madden “Kaisar” studded flat. It’s not quite as spiky, but lots of gleaming studs still make this flat a stand-out. Use promo code “SMJAN1” to get 15% OFF all orders of $100 or more at Steve Madden including free shipping! Offer valid through 01/31/2013. Some exclusions apply.

Charles David “Rad” Studded Flats

Another option is the studded, shiny snake “Rad” Flat by Charles David. Like the Big Kiss, the “Rad” boasts high-gloss shine, and while there are less studs, the snakeskin adds oomph. Hiss…

And here is yet another alternative: “Juliet” by Pour la Victoire. Not quite as aggressive in appearance (and probably superbly comfy) these flats could very well replace the flip-flips in your closet.
