Cork heels seem so retro and yet so of-the-moment, don’t they? Exhibit A, these “Gaynor” heels by Brian Atwood. I’m a big fan of Brian Atwood, but these cork heels are especially amazing. The cork lends a casual spring-time feel while the black patent leather gives them a festive aura. Guaranteed to win you lots of compliments, these shoes are a must have. Oh, but what’s that? They’re upwards of $600 AND sold out? Well then why not try…

UPDATE (03/23/2010): Found a second steal version of the Brian Atwood sandals by Jeffrey Campbell. The heel is wooden instead of cork, but everything else is quite the same. Available in black and gold.

I’ve got to admit that I’m a bit surprised by the incredible popularity of the Brian Atwood Lola Pump, because it is bold shoe, to say the least. Yet Lola, and the peep-toe version Wiked, have been photographed on almost a dozen celebrities. No wonder why it’s now sold out.

N.Y.L.A. “Bandit” T-Strap Pumps
If you had your eye on Brian Atwood’s no-longer-available Lola, the “Bandit” T-Strap Pump by N.Y.L.A. is an excellent alternative. And at $119.95, you can channel Katy’s femme fatale look or Megan’s rocker chic without an ounce of buyer’s remorse. Available in black leather or cheetah pony.

I have gotten several requests to feature a Real vs. Steal post on designer over-the-knee boots, so here you go. Even if you don’t follow fashion trends or read fashion mags on a regular basis, I’m sure you still have noticed this year’s obvious trend of thigh-high boots. I must admit that I love this trend on the runway, but in the real world it’s darn hard to pull these off as a normal-sized woman. Then I saw these OTK suede boots by Brian Atwood on Olivia Palermo and was instantly smitten with them as they look so extremely flattering on her. If I was ever to follow the thigh high boots trend, I’d definitely go for something like this.

Steve Madden “SHAKIRAA” OTK Boots
While not a blatant copy, these boots by Steve Madden still make the cut if you are looking for a budget-friendly pair of thigh high suede boots with a mid heel.
