In case you didn’t get the memo, the 2010 designer darling is Alexander Wang. And why not? Aside from his clothing lines, his bags are legendary, his shoes the definition of urban cool, and—mark my words—his Zoro Angular Acetate Sunglasses are going to be iconic. In 20 years’ time, your girls are going to be scrambling for their very own vintage pair. They are the cat eye of the noughties.

Sunglass Warehouse Style #31202 Cat Eye Sunglasses
If you’re digging the Wang frame, but don’t have the cash (or the courage) to sport them, the #31202 Cat Eye Sunglasses by Sunglass Warehouse are a fantastic alternative. They have the same, delicious hard angles, just slightly less extreme. And for less than $14? That’s a pair you don’t have to be Beautiful Dirty Rich to rock. Available in red tortoise, brown striped & zebra print.

Runways are styled for pictures, people are styled for living. So, understandably, it sometimes takes a little tweaking to get one to live in the other’s world. This is a perfect example. Alexander Wang has proven that a little leopard goes with everything, but in our case the shorter and more structured jacket will create a look worthy of a few thumbed up Facebook photos.

Finally! I’ve gotta tell you guys, I have been anxiously awaiting the “knock-off” version of the Alexander Wang Alla wedges for months now and judging from the amount of emails we’ve received on this shoe, I’m not the only one. These super cute wedges are not only super pricey but also super sold out. I initially saw them on Khloe Kardashian (the leopard version) and it was love at first sight. Since then I’ve been both stalking them on eBay (totally fruitless) and looking for “steal” versions (also completely pointless)…

Joan & David “Opal” Wedge Booties
Well our patience seems to have paid off. Joan & David‘s “Opal” Wedge Booties are not the cheapest steal we’ve ever featured, but gosh, they’re good, aren’t they? In all the most important ways, these booties are an awesome knockoff of the Allas. Beautiful shape, rich color, peep-toe… half the price… now all we need is a leopard version. For now though, I’ll take the black leather or black suede.

Peep-toe booties are a favorite of mine but I know it took a while for most people to fully embrace them. Intellectually I know they make no practical sense, but I can’t help it – I find them disarmingly sexy. Well, combine that peep-toe bootie with a zipper and you’ve got yourself what is possibly the trendiest shoe of the moment. Alexander Wang‘s Freja Open Toe Laced Zip Booties (say that three times fast) have been so incredibly popular that they sold out immediately on NET-A-PORTER. They are still available on Shopbop, but at such a high price I’m not surprised by the influx of mail we’ve received asking us to locate a suitable knockoff.

ASOS “TURNER” Suede Lace-Up Peep-toe Shoes
Now readers, I know these aren’t an exact copy of the Alexander Wangs (I fear we’ll most likely have to wait a few months for those to start flooding the scene – but when they do, be sure we’ll feature them here!), but it’s quite clear to us where ASOS gleaned their inspiration from. With the flap, high heel and peep-toe you’ll be getting the same general sexy feel as the Alexander Wang booties but without the hefty price tag.

Dorothy Perkins Zip Buckle Ankle Boots
Now if what you really loved about the originals was that amazing zipper detailing, then maybe these Dorothy Perkins‘ Zip Buckle Ankle boots are for you. The flap is still there with the aforementioned zippering, as is the peep-toe, but they’ve also added buckles, another huge trend for 2010. While these are a little bit of a stretch from Alexander Wang’s Frejas, these are definitely my favorite knockoff. I’m a sucker for hardware and I love how they cut the front peep-toe part of the shoe a little wider than normal – certainly vaguely reminiscent of the Wangs. If you can’t wait for an exact knockoff of the Freja booties to emerge, why not give these a try?

Alexander Wang presented his Pre-Fall 2010 collection a few days ago and I must honestly say that I’m not impressed. Ever since his glorious Spring and Pre-Fall 2009 collections he just couldn’t live up to my expectations. Maybe Fall 2010 will reignite my love for his designs. Until then I’ll have to keep on drooling over his past creations, one of which is this beautifully draped asymmetrical jersey dress from his Pre-Fall 2009 collection. It is sexy yet elegant.

I have absolutely no reason to complain about not having enough new stuff since I just received my Dorothy Perkins
order today (4 pairs of shoes; 50% OFF sale + 15% discount code? I’m in!). While I’m quite satisfied with what I got for the little money I paid, in the end you can still see that these were budget buys. Oh how I wish I could lay down $300 for a top and not having to worry about going broke over a $500 dress. Too bad money is such a critical point in the whole shopping process. But while I’m not able to put all the pricey goodies into my cart and check out with a $2000 bill, it helps slightly to at least stuff them on my wish list hoping some anonymous admirer will find his way to this list and graciously send me one or two things from there. Yup, I’m quite a dreamer if you couldn’t guess by now.

Animal prints. They can be a dangerous thing for women; nothing spells C-R-A-Z-Y like too much print on your person or in your house. But sometimes you can’t blame a girl for not being able to get enough, because all that tiger, and zebra, and cheetah…oh my! There’s just something about it that makes you feel exotic and wild.
Animal Print Heels – Designer Edition
You know here at InTheirCloset, we love you ladies, and we want to help all of you put your best foot forward. Especially one shod in a Wang Alla wedge—the only exception to the one print, one piece rule. Since prints are quite potent, the easiest way to ensure sartorial success is to limit that zip of zebra to your shoes. So we’ve rounded up the leaders of the designer pack, for your inspiration and fascination…

You know how I know we’re good? Because we never forget a shoe. Or a handbag. Or a face. OK, so not the last one. Back in the old days (you know, 2005) the fashion world saw the introduction to the “It Bag” – a bag that became every starlet’s must have accessory. One day, readers (stay with me), Mary Kate Olsen was spotted carrying a gorgeous black, studded bag that no one could identify but that everyone immediately wanted. A year later the bag (eventually attributed to the talented, Alexander Wang) was made available to the public. It was then known as “Coco”; it is now known as “Rocco”; I can afford neither one.

Wet Seal Stud Bottom Satchel
I have to be honest, the last time I shopped at Wet Seal I was looking for something to wear to the school dance (in other words, it was 1998), but by golly perhaps Wet Seal deserves another look! Their Stud Bottom Satchel is a pretty darn great dupe of the Alexander Wang bag. True, it’s not made out of leather but I know there are vegans among us who actually prefer that. For a measly $24.50 this is a hot bag to add to your arsenal. (Note: if you’re having trouble locating the bag on theWet Seal site, click on the link below and enter the style number – “42178118” – into the search field).

So, it’s Alexander Wang again, huh? Still love him. His Fall 2009 collection didn’t found me overly excited, but the Spring 2009 collection was a total success in my book. There wasn’t one single piece I didn’t like or not wanted in my closet right away. The shoes from this spring collection were kick-ass. Wang’s chunky platform booties sure aren’t for the faint of heart. I mean, can you imagine walking in these without breaking your ankles? I probably wouldn’t even make it out of the house (still doesn’t mean I don’t want to own them though).

Steve Madden “MASSIVVE” Platform Booties
I think I already mentioned that one has to give credit to Steve Madden for fearlessly copying designer shoes and NOT toning them down like many other copycats do. These ankle boots below are a good example. While they aren’t a 100% exact replica of the Alexander Wang booties, I like that they kept the chunky platform and sky high heel to preserve the original raw and urban look.

I have been really loving open-weave sweaters ever since they showed up on the Rodarte runways last year (or was it 2008?). I even dragged a good friend to 3 different stores where I proceeded to purchase 2 very-much-alike versions of the trend (hey, one is black and white and the other is multi-colored!). Anyway, enough about me. Alexander Wang has come out with a spring version of the open-weave sweater that I think is to-die-for. I love how it can just as easily be layered over a bathing-suit or paired with denim leggings. We’ve featured Wang here before, on InTheirCloset, however, so I think you know what comes next. An exorbitant price-tag of course! Sigh.

ASOS Crochet Holey Jumper
ASOS has blessedly created a version of the Alexander Wang Lattice Bobble Sweater that is both more real-world appropriate and real-wallet friendly. Many of the details from the original are there, including color-choice, but if you’re looking for the oversized fit that the original has, I would definitely size up. An awesome addition to any wardrobe (I’m especially digging the white for summer) and a great price.
