Shorts & Jumpsuits

Update: This post has been updated on July 2, 2016. Scroll down to see the new add.

InStyle’s July issue features some of the best shorts of the season, but they must not have seen this patriotic pair by Current/Elliott! The classic wash and length makes them incredibly versatile, not to mention how cute the subtle sandblasted star pattern is when paired with a simple t-shirt and flat sandals. But if wearing denim shorts all summer long isn’t the most practical for your lifestyle, perhaps you could invest in a less expensive pair to wear during all your 4th of July festivities. Scroll down to see our best find yet!

Lucky Brand “Riley” Star-Print Frayed Shorts

Now that you’ve seen this pair by Lucky Brand, and have stars in your eyes, what will the rest of your outfit look like? You’ve got so many great options! I’d suggest starting with a knit top or blouse in a personally flattering shade of red, dark blue or gray and add accessories in your favorite metallic shade. Maybe it’s an armful of silver bangles or perhaps some thin gold hoops? Either way, it’s best to select more understated pieces to keep the look elegant and not costumey. Lastly, finish the outfit with some nautical-inspired wedges, boat shoes or your favorite causal footwear… and most importantly, relax and have fun!

Blair from Atlantic-Pacific is hands down one of my absolute favorite personal style bloggers and I think she has such an impeccable sense of style. Whenever I visit her blog, I always find an abundance of outfit inspiration and rarely see a look that I do not love. While browsing for some new outfit ideas yesterday, I happened to discover this beautiful summer outfit where Blair wore a striped off-the-shoulder top with white short overalls by Madewell, tan Chloé espadrille wedges, a cute straw boater and cool Ray-Ban Clubmaster shades. I was so in love with Blair’s French Chic summer ensemble that I decided to recreate her look on a more budget-friendly level. What do you think of my alternative picks? Close enough? Let me know.

Dolce Gabbana Spring 2015 x Nasty Gal

by Irina on February 4, 2016

Dolce Gabbana‘s Spring 2015 Collection has been by far one of my absolute favorites in the last five to ten years. Now I’ve always been a huge fan of Italian design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, but S/S 2015 was especially outstandingly beautiful! All of the looks were so extravagant, so feminine, so sensual, so bold! Those floral embroideries combined with delicate lace and luxurious silks? Pure heaven! But that beauty, of course, came with a price. A skirtls from that collection for example would sell for an astronomical price of $12.500, a mini dressls went for roughly $10.000. With prices that high, there wasn’t even the slightest thought of purchasing possible.

Nasty Gal does Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2015

Then a few days ago I happened to stumble upon a few pieces on Nasty Gal that somehow looked all too familiar. And after a few seconds it suddenly hit me: Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2015, of course! I mean, just look at the model’s hair and makeup! Totally obvious! The designs themselves aren’t spot-on dupes, but close enough to pretend you’re a sultry Italian duchess. Some of the pieces have already sold out of many sizes, so lightning-fast shopping is advised.

I have a new favorite trend for the remainder of fall and coming winter: emerald green velvet as seen at Cushnie Et Ochs‘ F/W 2015 runway show (I simply adore the matchy-matchy head-to-toe velvet look here!). There’s just something so hypnotic about this deeply rich color and sensual material mix that makes it absolutely irresistible to me! Emerald green velvet looks so luxurious, so mysterious, so noble. Luckily, a couple of fashion chains picked up on this bold trend and incorporated it into their fall/winter collections, most notably Topshop and H&M which both have an extensive selection of (emerald) velvet pieces available at the moment (check out Topshop here and H&M here). Below I’ve selected my favorite emerald velvet picks which are both fashionable and affordable. Set off your green velvet look with bold gold jewelry, a black faux fur vest or, if you really want to make a statement with your outfit, just add some glitter.

I know many of you are already preparing for the fall season (fashion-wise and mentally), but I’m not quite done with summer yet. Especially not with summer’s soft and fun side: light, pastel color palettes, sleeveless tops, short shorts and naked toes. Oh how I’m gonna miss all that in the next 6-9 months! So before I can dive into fall fashion, I had to kiss summer goodbye with one last imaginary outfit. What do you think? Do you like it?
