Pants & Jeans

Spring is officially around the corner and I can’t wait to ditch all of my winter clothes and finally pull out airy dresses and open-toed sandals from their winter hiatus. But since Spring isn’t in full bloom yet, we can’t probably do without a warm coat or jacket, but we can definitely welcome the new season by lightening up our wardrobe with pastel colors for example which is what I tried to do in this week’s budget look edition. Let me know if you like it!

Christmas is right around the corner and today I was in such a festive mood that I decided to create a wintery budget look to honor the coldest of seasons. But it wasn’t until I was finished and very proud of my creation that I noticed this black-white-blush winter outfit might not be exactly weatherproof for colder climates (hello, backless loafers and sheer mesh body!). So instead of ditching the whole look and starting all over again, I simply decided to rename the outfit theme from “Winter Wonderland” to “Californian Winter Wonderland”. Pure genius, I know. But anyways: Happy Holidays, everyone! I hope you will be able to enjoy a relaxed and joyful Christmas with all your loved ones! And now step away from your computer and treat yourself to a Christmas cookie or two.

Reinventing denim is not an easy task, but somehow the fashion industry manages to come up with new trends and variations season after season. A few trends from the last couple years have been: distressed/destroyed, ombré, floral print and pastels for example. Star print has been quite popular lately as well (we have written about Current/Elliott‘s star printed denim shorts here). Last year they also released a super chic semi-sheer star-print skinny jean which I loved! The print instantly adds interest to the outfit and takes this jeans from plain ordinary to fashionably chic. But $220? Designer denim sure isn’t for everyone’s wallet.

Luckily, we have a few brands from more affordable sectors that have also incorporated the star print trend. These skinny jeans by Only are a great alternative if you’re craving the designer look but don’t want to splurge on the original. The print is more opaque on these, but everythings else seems virtually identical.

Blair from Atlantic-Pacific is hands down one of my absolute favorite personal style bloggers and I think she has such an impeccable sense of style. Whenever I visit her blog, I always find an abundance of outfit inspiration and rarely see a look that I do not love. While browsing for some new outfit ideas yesterday, I happened to discover this beautiful summer outfit where Blair wore a striped off-the-shoulder top with white short overalls by Madewell, tan Chloé espadrille wedges, a cute straw boater and cool Ray-Ban Clubmaster shades. I was so in love with Blair’s French Chic summer ensemble that I decided to recreate her look on a more budget-friendly level. What do you think of my alternative picks? Close enough? Let me know.

I have a new favorite trend for the remainder of fall and coming winter: emerald green velvet as seen at Cushnie Et Ochs‘ F/W 2015 runway show (I simply adore the matchy-matchy head-to-toe velvet look here!). There’s just something so hypnotic about this deeply rich color and sensual material mix that makes it absolutely irresistible to me! Emerald green velvet looks so luxurious, so mysterious, so noble. Luckily, a couple of fashion chains picked up on this bold trend and incorporated it into their fall/winter collections, most notably Topshop and H&M which both have an extensive selection of (emerald) velvet pieces available at the moment (check out Topshop here and H&M here). Below I’ve selected my favorite emerald velvet picks which are both fashionable and affordable. Set off your green velvet look with bold gold jewelry, a black faux fur vest or, if you really want to make a statement with your outfit, just add some glitter.
