Whether running errands or sitting front row at Versace, Jessica Alba always looks incredible. This casual look is no exception. Her vintage-inspired floral blazer goes really well paired with the more modern blue/black tuxedo stripe jeans. Add to that a neutral oversized bag for carrying one’s all essentials, some simple yet structured booties, a girlish ponytail et voilà, you’ve got a very chic outfit that looks absolutely effortless yet remarkably put together. The secret is balancing the pieces: an oversized jacket with slim jeans, a large bag with structured shoes and hair that throws everything in a desirably feminine direction. Shame on me! I skipped my monthly Shopbop wish lists for almost 5 months. Sorry, but it’s just that summer happened and I was kind of busy catching the sun for the last few weeks and months. However, now that fall is slowly approaching I’m back full force with my pricey wish list for the month of August. What do you think of my list? Don’t forget to comment to let me know what your favorite pick is.

Update: This post has been updated on August 30, 2012. Scroll down to see the new add.

Peplums are everywhere this season, and Tom Ford really knows how to design a knockout dress. It strikes the perfect balance between feminine and powerful, and the tailoring is absolute artwork in itself. The length and proportion is also one of the things I love most; it hugs every curve without giving away too much. Of course this dress (originally from the Spring 2012 collection) is custom-fitted and custom-priced, so to get the same look, consider the two amazing “inspired-by” designs below.

Dorothy Perkins Strapless Peplum Dress

UPDATE (08/30/2012): Even though this dress by Dorothy Perkins is more of an inspired-by version I still wanted to list it as an alternative because I find it to be the most flattering dress option of all.

bebe Houndstooth Ponte Peplum Dress

The first option by bebe is a “younger” version of the original; with a louder and shorter skirt. It’s definitely a little harder to wear, but the shape and silhouette is quite similar. If I were to wear this dress, I’d pair it with black tights and black platform pumps. That said, add a mini clutch and some fantastic earrings and you’re all set. The dress is already a showstopper packed with leathery details; so let it do all the talking.

Lipsy Bandeau Peplum Dress

The length is a little longer on this version by Lipsy, but it’s balanced by a deeper, sweetheart neckline. While still more youthful than the original design, it’s probably the one I’d choose to wear first out of the two less-expensive options. It seems a bit more forgiving in the fit; judging by the way the peplum sits closer to the hip, making it more flattering to curves. I suggest wearing this style the way Jennifer does, with pointy toe stilettos, a fantastic blow out, and a mega-watt smile.

Real vs. Steal – Issa Lace Dress

by Juliana on August 18, 2012

I am such a huge fan of this dress by Issa! All things lace are big this season and put that together with an especially flattering cut like this and you might have the perfect cocktail dress. However, the bright blue cobalt completely steals the show though, making this dress a real standout in a sea of black. You can be sure people will remember this one, and for a special occasion, that is exactly what you want! Perhaps you are looking for your rehearsal dinner dress or something to wear to a very important date. But, if you need a dress you can wear over and over, or would rather not spend a fortune on just one dress, we found some options for you below.

Rare Lace Sweetheart Tutu Skater Dress

HOT DEAL: Celebrate Back to School with ASOS! 20% OFF full price merchandise. Use promo code “BACKTOSCHOOL” at checkout. Offer valid through 08/19/12.

This gorgeous version by Rare has the most beautifully cut back I’ve seen in a while. But which color to choose? The black is a great addition to your wardrobe, not only does it fit in the “little black dress” category, but you can also accessorize it a million different ways. Wear it with a pink sash around the waist or add some bright heels or earrings. The red is definitely a more memorable one, yet it is such a classic color that it works beautifully with pearls as it would with modern sculptural platforms in black or nude. Just consider what color looks best on you, how much black is already in your wardrobe, and how often you’ll be wearing it to make your decision. But the price is incredible; so you don’t have to decide… if you really love them, just get both! I’m seriously considering it.
