Halloween Costume Idea – The Stylish Ladybug

by Irina on October 22, 2012

With Halloween coming up soon, we thought it’d be fun to share a few of our favorite costume ideas. If you are anything like us and hate tossing money out on disposable, cheap-looking costumes every year, then consider this idea on how to dress up for the spookiest time of the year: Buy things that will create a theme together, but which can all be worn separately as well. Our first costume inspiration following this idea is “The Stylish Ladybug” – a look that is, in all, just the right amount of costumey without being over-the-top. And once Halloween is over you can keep all of the items in your closet and make them part of your everyday wardrobe as they’re both fashionable and versatile. What do you think? Do you like our ladybug look for Halloween?

I love Victoria Beckham‘s style. She always looks put-together and dresses incredibly well for her petite figure. This dress is another great addition to any girl’s closet. It has a classic shape, bold yet sophisticated colors and, best of all, versatility. Wear it with black tights and boots or by itself with some towering heels. You can also change it up depending on the weather (or the occasion). The fabric contours splendidly over curves and the stripes are placed strategically for the best impact. While this highly sought-after design is already sold out in stores, you can still obtain a fantastic steal. Scroll a little further down and see it for yourself! You won’t believe your eyes.

McBerry Stripe Red-Black 3/4 Sleeve Pencil Dress

Just as sultry as the designer version, this dress by McBerry is perfect for so many occasions. The stripes are placed a bit differently (this dress really flatters narrow shoulders), but it has the same modern color-blocked look and can be worn exactly the same way as the original. Simply add a large tote and platforms for a daytime look and black patent pumps and a clutch for an evening outfit and you’re all set. Depending on your style, perhaps wear some small earrings and a modern cocktail ring. Try to keep accessories simple as this dress is just asking to steal the show! Posh Spice would definitely be proud of this find. After all, she once admitted that her famous little black frock was a super steal, too! Another bonus? It’s also available in orange/black.

Olivia Palermo always looks fabulous and this look is no exception. I just love the way she paired two bold jewel tones (emerald and citrine) and made them look fantastic together. If I had to guess, I’d say the secret is the neutral basics she wore with them. The soft charcoal grey sweater softens the overall look and her handbag and accessories all compliment her skin and hair color. And then instead of the usual jewelry (like earrings or a necklace) she went for the unexpected brooches worn on her blazer’s collar. Vintage pieces like these are actually not very hard to find these days, with flea markets and antiques turning up many fun sparklers for just a few dollars. Of course, you can always get creative and repurpose some 1950’s shoe clips or clip-on earrings into a whole new look! The only thing left to finish off the outfit is some sassy red nail polish and a gold bracelet and watch. Ready to try it for yourself? Have fun shopping our awesome steals below!

Real vs. Steal – Funktional Silk Fold Front Top

by Roseanne on October 7, 2012

Speaking about a play on words, this Funktional Silk Fold Front Top is equally funky as it provides a great amount of function and versatility. But asides from the catchy brand name, it is also beautifully crafted with a woman’s figure in mind. The draping is modern but tailored in a very classic and polished way, making this blouse a staple piece. Also, it is perfect for those body-conscious days when you had (or plan to have) a big meal for instance and creates a concealing and therefore flattering appearance. Yet $124 is still pricey, so be sure to look at the look-a-like below!

9th Wonder “Brooke” Blouse

This look-a-like by 9th Wonder features the very same draping and silhouette as the blouse above. The only differences are in the color, in which I actually prefer the taupe as it’s more wearable, and the obvious price difference. This “Brooke” Blouse can be worn with skirts, jeans and trousers – basically anything.
