While I hate to kiss summer goodbye, I have to admit that Shopbop
is making it quite easy to welcome fall and the colder weather by giving us the best of fall fashion. Looking at their latest arrivals I once again found a ton of covetable things I’d love to add to my closet. If money were no object this is what I’d get to update my fall wardrobe…

Is there anyone out there who wasn’t crazy about some aspect of the Burberry Prorsum fall/winter 2010 collection? From the draped, ruched mini dresses, to the over-the-knee boots, to the completely delicious cropped shearling jackets—it was a sensation at the minimum, iconic at the max. And you can see why. The Shearling Funnel Neck Aviator Jacket looks like a cloud in the form of a clothing. If I could justify $3.5k for it, I so would.

Burberry Prorsum Shearling Funnel Neck Aviator Jacket
($3.595, Burberry)
Lipsy Faux Sheepskin Aviator Jacket
If you, like me, are really hanging to recreate the Burberry fall 2010 aesthetic at a lower price point, you know it can be achieved pretty easily until you get to the outerwear. Well now, even that is no obstacle. Behold the Lipsy Faux Sheepskin Aviator Jacket, ladies. This brown faux shearling is cut beautifully, and is the perfect topper for a skinny ruched mini, or even jeans and a tank. And at a mere £85, you’ll be looking like Burberry Barbie in no time.

Runways are styled for pictures, people are styled for living. So, understandably, it sometimes takes a little tweaking to get one to live in the other’s world. This is a perfect example. Alexander Wang has proven that a little leopard goes with everything, but in our case the shorter and more structured jacket will create a look worthy of a few thumbed up Facebook photos.

I know we’re in the middle of summer with most of us dressing in airy summer dresses, tank tops, denim cut-offs & flip flops. Or bikinis. So it naturally takes a lot to make me crave anything that’s non-sleeveless. But as soon as I laid my eyes on these items from BB Dakota‘s upcoming fall collection I was madly in love. Not only because these are all absolutely stylish pieces, but also because almost all of them are under $100 except for the leather jacket which is admittedly a little steep at $300. I’m not ready to part with my sundresses just yet, but I know I’ll be just as happy when fall rolls around.

If you’ve taken notice of some fashion forward ladies this summer, then you have seen the emergence of what is going to stylishly take the world by storm this fall: military chic. If you’re picturing obnoxious camo and intense patchwork, you couldn’t be more mistaken. This style will be defined by the khaki colors and simple fabrics (canvas, cotton, leather, parachute) – all understated, but in no-nonsense silhouettes with some perfectly placed buttons.
Not too long ago we featured this Balmain collection, clearly ahead of its time Runway to Real Way – Balmain S/S 2010 Military Chic

Reese Witherspoon is one of those celebrities who never looks like she’s trying that hard. She has an effortlessly chic style that I’m pretty sure many would love to emulate. Out and about in Brentwood, CA a couple of weeks ago, the petite star looked adorably incognito (fedora! sunglasses!) while managing to also shine ever so brightly in a red Madewell summer dress. Her army green jacket is a nod to the current military trend and her nude wedges made her legs look a mile long (OK, maybe several feet). It was easy to come up with our Look 4 Less pieces this go-around because Reese’s sweet Madewell dress is happily fairly reasonably priced!

My personal style includes a mixture of classic designer pieces and inexpensive trendy items. When I saw this striped blazer by Tory Burch (RRP: $325), I knew there was a designer space for it in my closet. The simple shape is given a new look with nautical stripes. I’m already running imaginary outfits through my head!

If you want to add a little stripes into your wardrobe, but don’t want to drop a whole load of your hard earned money, then this Spiegel blazer is an excellent option. The shape and stripes get the job done. If you still have your mind set on gold nautical buttons, only a few dollars and a needle and thread will do the trick.

H&M released a first preview for their Fall 2010 collection recently and while flicking through the images I instantly had two déjà-vu moments. What caught my eye first was a beautiful apricot-colored cape coat closely followed by a huge cozy-looking, wool-trimmed grey winter coat.
After having 2 years of Real vs. Steal expertise under my belt, I’ve become quite the pro at recognizing designer-inspired stuff. Of course it wasn’t too hard to see the inspiration behind H&M’s latest collection as Christopher Bailey garnered quite a big media following after presenting his phenomenal Burberry Prorsum Fall 2010 collection. And Hannah MacGibbon’s Fall 2009 collection was considered to be Chloé’s big comeback to the high fashion world, so it is just as iconical.

I’m amazed at how quick H&M managed to pick up on the Burberry shearling-trim trend and I hope they’ll have a steal alternative for the uber-gorgeous aviator jackets as well. Also quite tempted by the Chloé look-a-like though I’m not sure how such a BIG blanket coat would look on me. Anyway, this collection preview has definitely put H&M back on my radar; I’m stoked to try all these fab pieces. What do you think about the H&M collection?
More looks from the collection after the jump… My other favorites are look #3, #6 and #8.

In case you wondered: Balmain is still going strong. I stumble upon Balmain knockoffs or Balmain inspired shoes & apparel on a daily basis and don’t know where to find the time needed to post all of these finds. So I have to cut back and just concentrate on the really good ones. The denim jacket below is a personal obsession of mine and even though I’d have a hard time finding an occasion where to sport this lovely thing to, I still want it in my closet so badly.

Hollywood’s PYTs (= Pretty Young Things) are looking really good lately. First we had Miley Cyrus donning French Chic with clogs and now we have a fabulous laid-back red carpet outfit of Vanessa Hudgens. The Disney star rocked a Madewell suede biker jacket with a white peasant top, her favorite Nudie skinny jeans, matching slingbacks by Joie and a knuckle ring by Made Her Think at the Premiere of Disney California Adventure Park’s “World of Color” in Anaheim last week. I’m also crushing on V’s loose fishtail braid.
