Posting a steal find for an Alexander McQueen item always makes me a little sad because I feel very strongly about the brand and the designer and would like to be able to support it by buying the real deal, however my budget says otherwise. McQueen’s iconic skull print scarves have been around for a while now and it didn’t take long before they became a celebrity staple. And who can blame them really? The scarves, which are now available in a million color combinations, are absolutely fabulous; scary skulls printed on delicate silk? Gotta love the contradiction. What’s not to love though? You know how I know we’re good? Because we never forget a shoe. Or a handbag. Or a face. OK, so not the last one. Back in the old days (you know, 2005) the fashion world saw the introduction to the “It Bag” – a bag that became every starlet’s must have accessory. One day, readers (stay with me), Mary Kate Olsen was spotted carrying a gorgeous black, studded bag that no one could identify but that everyone immediately wanted. Sometimes I really question my sanity. I will jump at the chance to buy and subsequently wear (all night long) a pair of 5 inch heels, however when it comes to bags I am much more comfort-conscious. I carry my Rebecca Minkoff cross-body purse more than any other bag in my closet, and it’s because it’s just so darn comfortable. I really love a cross-body bag because it distributes the weight of all your worldly possessions while simultaneously looking effortlessly chic. My new favorite bag to fall into this utopian category is the Proenza Schouler PS1 Large Leather Satchel. God, it’s a beauty, isn’t it? When I first saw the footwear collection for the S/S 2010 collection I was unsure if fast fashion chains would answer the call by replicating these extreme almost fetish-style shoes. If there’s one thing I admire about Mary-Kate Olsen style it’s her ability to mix and match jewelry. It always seems like she just threw on every item from jer jewelry box (or drawer probably), but it still looks effortlessly chic on her. Whenever I try to do the same I just look like a desperate old lady trying to show off her cheap costume jewelry. Sigh! I’ll just keep trying I guess.
