A few days ago actress Blake Lively has been spotted running errands on the Gossip Girl set in what I would describe as a perfect casual summer ensemble. The blonde beauty paired a blue button down shirt over an off-white tank top which she wore with navy shorts and a tan skinny belt. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably gimpsed one of this season’s hottest trends: the cage bootie. I’m not entirely sure where this fad originated but I’m going to guess that it might have been Yves Saint Laurent’s Cage Leather Sandal. A delicate, architectural beauty of a shoe, the YSL heels spurred quite a few copies. Christian Louboutin‘s Coussin Caged Ankle Boots are like the big, badass sister to the YSL sandals. To me, the CL booties look both industrial and hard; girly and sweet. They’re not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, to be sure, but they are certainly works of art; and pricey ones at that.

Christian Louboutin always seems to get it right, even if we’re talking espadrilles rather than sky-high pumps. Espadrilles have really seen a revival in the last couple of years but to be honest it took me a while to warm up to them. What I love about these Almeria Espadrille Wedges, however, is that they are a throwback yet totally modern at the same time. Sexy but also casual in a lovely summer-picnic kind of way. Celebrities obviously agree, as evidenced by the photos below. Clearly they’re in their budget, but are they in yours?

I know Balmain is supposed to be a super exclusive, high-end, ultra-luxe fashion label and even though I am used to see outraging prices for the most basic clothing I’m still apalled whenever I see the price tag of anything Balmain. I mean, come on, $13.000 for a sequin mini dress? Are you serious? As much as I adore Balmain and all of Christophe’s wonderful work for the French fashion house, there’s no way I would EVER buy it even if I had a few thousands to spare.

Lipsy Jewel Shoulder Pad Sequin Dress
Luckily, you don’t need to sell your soul in order to achieve the same glam sexy vixen look à la Balmain. Lipsy has come up with a great and 100x more affordable alternative. I wish they wouldn’t have dampened all the outstanding features that made this sequin LBD stand out (e.g. shoulder pads, plunge neck and length of the dress), but all in all it’s still a super sexy dress which goes to show that you don’t need to spend a fortune to look like a million dollars.

I so adore the Christian Louboutin Mary Janes below. They are so brilliant, don’t you agree? The straps are playful while color and shape is classic and the stiletto heel will give you these extra few inches.
