Sunglasses

Spring is officially around the corner and I can’t wait to ditch all of my winter clothes and finally pull out airy dresses and open-toed sandals from their winter hiatus. But since Spring isn’t in full bloom yet, we can’t probably do without a warm coat or jacket, but we can definitely welcome the new season by lightening up our wardrobe with pastel colors for example which is what I tried to do in this week’s budget look edition. Let me know if you like it!

Real vs. Steal – Dior So Real Sunglasses

by Irina on February 1, 2017

Update: This post has been updated on February 1, 2017. Scroll down to see the new adds.

When it comes to setting fashion trends, Dior seems to be on quite a roll at the moment. First, we had the Mise En Dior craze and now we have everybody lusting after their uber-cool “So Real” sunglasses. Karen Walker and Céline, move over! If we could crown one pair of shades the official sunglasses of 2015, it would definitely be Dior’s “So Real” frames. And even though these sunglasses are everything but affordable at $595, virtually every fashion influencer – from bloggers to fashion editors to supermodels to celebs (and let’s not forget about all the countless Instagram sightings) – has been spotted wearing these sunnies. They come in a wide range of great styles, but if I had to pick a “So Real” favorite it would probably be the crystal (clear)/silver version with the blue mirrored lenses (last one pictured below). But no matter how much hype is still to follow on these lovely shades, there’s no way I would lay down almost $600 on a pair of trendy sunglasses that’ll probably be so passé 6 months from now.

Mary Seng from Happily Grey is one of my absolute favorite personal style bloggers at the moment. I love scrolling through her Instagram feed; she has such a great taste in clothes and I adore her sense of style which is modern yet feminine and elegant yet also bold and fearless. To me it feels like Mary isn’t afraid of playing with fashion and taking risks while at the same time still maintaining her unique style and genuineness. One of her recent looks particularly caught my attention; Mary wore a white oversized chunky knit sweater with a beautiful forest green wool skirt which she then paired with a timeless black quilted Chanel bag. I loved this outfit so much that I just had to recreate it on a more accessible level with budget-friendly options. Let me know what you think of my white and green blogger winter look for less.

Are you familiar with these futuristic-looking sunglasses by Dior? The “So Real” shades have admittedly stolen the thunder from Dior’s “Technologic” sunglasses last year because both models were released around the same time, but now that I actually had the chance to try the “So Real” sunnies on myself, I’m kind of over them because they didn’t suit my face as much as I hoped they would. I did like the architectural concept of the “So Real” however and that’s where the “Technologic” sunglasses come in because they’re like the grown-up and sophisticated sister of the “So Real”, a modern and updated spin on the classic aviator silhouette. But “Made in Italy” or not, there’s no way I’d spend more than $500 on a pair of sunglasses. Sorry, Dior!

I simply call these cat-eye sunnies by Pradathe blogger shades” because I’ve already spotted them numerous times on a bunch of fab personal style bloggers and a few celebrities such as model at large, Miranda Kerr, too. And I can totally see why these sunglasses are so highly coveted: they are the perfect symbiosis between cat-eye and oversized, bold in shape, but minimalistic in design. I feel like they’re an updated version of those retro cat eye sunglasses from the 50s. And like so many before me, I, too, fell hopelessly in love with these sunnies. So, after a few months of contemplation, I finally gave in and bought them (with prescription lenses, a first for me). And what can I say? They’ve been my favorite pair of sunglasses ever since! Totally worth the money (of course, I made sure to get a good deal on them and bypassed paying retail). No buyer’s remorse whatsoever.
