Accessories

It’s no secret that I just adore Mrs. Victoria Beckham—and this outfit, in particular, is one of my very favorite ensembles. She’s managed to rock three hot trends at once (the blazer, utilitarian/military, and nude pumps) and not look like a trend victim. And what’s the recipe for her success? Clean lines, solid neutrals. But don’t you worry about that. We’ve done all the legwork for you below.

Like most of us, it’s taken Victoria some time to find her style, but those years of experimental blond hair and overindulgence in the Mystic Tan booth were worth it, because the lady is now a masterpiece of her own making. There are some women who fall into the “classy” category, ones that fall into the “sexy” category, and ones that make the “cool” category. Rare is the woman—like VB—who can be described as all three.

Miroslava Duma might not be your standard Hollywood celebrity. However, among fashion connoisseurs she’s been known for her impeccable style for quite some time now. The Russian “It” girl has been working as an editor for Harper’s Bazaar Russia and is a common face on street style blogs such as The Sartiorialist and Jak&Jil during Fashion Week. She’s also cute as a button, so that might be weighing in as well. The picture below, taken by Mr. Sartorialist himself, is one of the most popular of Miroslava. I remember people flooding several style forums in hopes of finding someone who can id her outfit. Miroslava’s nerdy glasses have been subject to great interest in particular. As far as I know, no one has been able to identify the brand or come up with a proper alternative for her geeky frames… well, that was until today.

LuLu*s “Nerd Alert” Frames

Did we already mention just how muuuuuuch we love LuLu*s? Check out their “Nerd Alert” frames which cost only $9 and compare them to Miroslava’s. They look quite identical to me. Hers might have cost a bit more, but we certainly don’t mind a cheap thrill, do we? Make sure to use our exclusive coupon code above to save another $1.35! Yay!

We don’t often feature jewelry here on InTheirCloset but we felt that the Tiffany Legacy Collection Aquamarine Ring probably deserved an entry. After all, at $6,400 I can’t imagine an item more worthy of a “Real vs. Steal” post. The Tiffany site describes this ring as being evocative of the “Edwardian Period” and I can certainly see some Belle Époque royal donning this stunner on her index finger. Today, however, this ring, featuring a 1.26 aquamarine and a mess of round brilliant diamonds, would be the ideal cocktail ring. If you’ve got money to spare. Which I do not (hello, closet full of Forever 21 jewelry!).

The Blue Topaz Cocktail Ring featured on My Jewelry Box is the perfect, more affordable alternative to the mucho expensivo Tiffany Aquamaring Ring. Set in white gold (the Tiffany ring is set in platinum), this gorgeous bague is also available with a citrine, amethyst (love!) and green amethyst stone.

When I was asked if I’d like to do a scarf review for Affordable Scarves, I jumped at the chance. You see, I love scarves. I’ve been wearing silk, wool, velvet, linen, cotton, and fur scarves for many years. Scarves are my friends. Forever.

Affordable Scarves is exactly what it touts itself to be: an online scarf retailer with an extensive collection of scarves at affordable prices. The majority of the site’s inventory falls between $10 and $20 (and there’s a 15% OFF spring special running at the moment, so they are super cheap). With prices that inexpensive, you should know that these are not Hermés-quality scarves, but they are functional and fun, and for under 20 bucks, I’d say that’s exactly the point. The site is very user-friendly and you can search for scarves by color, material, season, shape, size and trend. They also offer free shipping on orders over $30. So I made my choice, and in no time, this Leopard Print Wrap arrived at my door…

Vahni & Her Leopard Print Wrap

Vahni & her Affordable Scarves Leopard Print Wrap in black & white

I have to admit, I couldn’t wait for this scarf to arrive, for two reasons: I have no other leopard print scarves and this print has been showing up on scarves everywhere over the last year. I opened the package and unfurled the wrap, and honey, it kept going and going and going! I guess I didn’t pay much attention to the dimensions (76″ L x 52″ W) when I ordered it… it is indeed the size of a wrap, and a big one. But more about that in a minute.

So I knew the scarf is polyester, and while polyester is a wonder fabric, part of me wished it was linen or cotton, just so it felt a little softer. But I have to admit that the fabric lends itself well with this wrap—the print is crisp and vibrant; despite the size, it’s not bulky; and it launders like a champ. In the photos above, the photo on the left was taken after the scarf was washed in a lingerie bag on a normal cycle and air-dried. The photos on the right were taken before it was washed. No difference…and notice how it ties up into a knot that fits in your hand. That means it would be a fantastic piece for traveling.

In terms of wearability, the Affordable Scarves Leopard Print Wrap is unbelievably versatile. You can do a traditional scarf look, wear it as a wrap, or as a sarong or bathing suit cover-up. It stays put, which is nice, and the one thing about silkier scarves I don’t like—they tend to slide. I wore it as a scarf, and I draped it around the back of my neck and belted it over a tank top and it looked great.

Bottom Line

Overall, I really love this wrap and would recommend it to anyone who is comfortable wearing a large wrap/scarf. It is chic, inexpensive, and statement-making—meets all my requirements!

PROS:

  • Gorgeous print—black and grey is a fresh take on leopard
  • Versatile—wear it as a scarf, wrap, or sarong
  • Great price—a low-cost way to work the animal print trend into your wardrobe

CONS:

  • Wished it was a natural fabric or blend with linen or cotton
  • Might be too large for a petite woman
  • Synthetic fabric might make it uncomfortable if worn as a summer scarf

Wow… what’s there to say about Penélope Cruz in this incredible nude sheath by Dolce & Gabbana except caliente? She looks phenomenal. The dress is exquisite, as are the to-die-for nude Christian Louboutin peep-toes. She gets two thumbs up, an A++, and first place.

Love Pen in that frock, and I’m sure you do too. So here’s the real-world, real-girl version, for less than $243. And a customer testimonial for you…I have those nude Whitsey pumps, and they are astoundingly fabulous! If you follow me on Twitter (@gritandglamour), you can see a photo of them on me (and let’s hope you’re already a follower of @intheircloset, because you often get our amazing sale scoop there first). They are my new favorite pumps, and mind you, I’m not a big fan of peep-toes. But this is a very special shoe. Truuuuuust me. Happy spring and happy shopping!
