Looking for that perfect airy pump for the spring that is so rapidly approaching? Have you seen the Miu Miu Basket Pumps? They’re sort of like Miu Miu‘s elevated, elegant take on the jelly. Don’t let that basket-weave fool you, though, that reinforced toe and super high heel means these are sophisticated enough to wear during an evening out. Like many of Miu Miu’s pumps, sadly, these are already totally sold out.

Rosegold “Marni” Pumps

Rosegold has done it again! They are quickly becoming my favorite knockoff brand because… well… just look at their “Marni” pumps. They are virtually identical to the Miu Miu Basket Pumps but at a much nicer price point. And truthfully, do you really want to throw down almost $600 for what are, essentially, glorified jellies? Didn’t think so. Available in black, cream and beige.

Review: Plattoes Shoes

by Celine on July 2, 2010

A girl just simply can’t have enough shoes. Handbags? Yes. Dresses? Probably. Shoes? Never. It is for this reason that I was over-the-moon enthusiastic to try out and review Plattoes shoes. They have, what I think, is a truly unique concept: you pick out the base shoe (wedges or heels) and then you have multiple ribbon options to choose from. Both pairs of base shoes come with metal loops to thread the ribbons through. They have 6 double-sided (reversible) ribbons and 18 standard ribbons. You can buy as few or as many as you’d like and the idea is to mix it up as often as you’d like.

The concept is original and fun, it’s quite exciting to be in the driver’s seat, so to speak, during the design of your shoe, and the idea of being able to switch up the color (ribbons) whenever I felt like it was pretty awesome. But does it work? Are the shoes comfortable? Are the ribbons easy to thread and tie? And first and foremost, are they cute? I’m sure you’re all wondering what the answers to those questions are, because I pondered them as well.

The shoes come packaged nicely in your standard shoe box. The ribbons are wrapped in plastic. I urge you to go on to the site and watch the various How to Tie videos, as attempting to tie the ribbons by “instinct” (as I did) turns out to not be so fruitful. Trust me. The shoes will feel loose and uncomfortable. The videos show you how to double tie, make cute bows, etc. Also, a tip from me: put the shoes on your foot first and only then start to tie. If you don’t proceed this way, your ribbons may end up being too tight and you’ll have to try and shove your foot under them… as I… ahem… did. You’ll get a much better, yet still snug fit if you do it this way.

Once on, I have to say, the shoes were pretty darn cute and ended up being moderately comfy after wearing them out shopping for a few hours. I opted for a black & white gingham ribbon, a navy striped ribbon and a red, double-sided, polka dot ribbon. I love the idea of being able to switch the ribbons according to what outfit you’re wearing, but I have to say – the process of tying the ribbons does get to be a bit tedious and to be completely honest, I never got a super comfortable fit – although I think I probably just have to dedicate some extra time to figuring out which ribbon-threading works best for me. In retrospect, I kind of wish I had chosen the wedges, as I think that shape of shoe lends itself much better to this concept.

Bottom Line

All in all, the idea is really fun, the ribbons are incredibly cute, but I think you have to have the patience to thread and re-thread the shoes for this to work best. I would also recommend purchasing the wedges over the heels and definitely watch the videos provided on the site for tips. If you do that, I think you’ll most likely be pretty psyched with your purchase.

PROS:

  • There exists a ribbon to match every outfit
  • A great price considering how many different looks you get
  • Really cute “retro” look

CONS:

  • Definite learning curve when it comes to tying the ribbons
  • Comfort wise, they never feel quite like normal shoes

Reese Witherspoon is one of those celebrities who never looks like she’s trying that hard. She has an effortlessly chic style that I’m pretty sure many would love to emulate. Out and about in Brentwood, CA a couple of weeks ago, the petite star looked adorably incognito (fedora! sunglasses!) while managing to also shine ever so brightly in a red Madewell summer dress. Her army green jacket is a nod to the current military trend and her nude wedges made her legs look a mile long (OK, maybe several feet). It was easy to come up with our Look 4 Less pieces this go-around because Reese’s sweet Madewell dress is happily fairly reasonably priced!

I have loved Chloé‘s Leather Lace-Up Wedge Boots since the moment I laid eyes on them. Leighton Meester wore them on an episode of Gossip Girl and I immediately scrambled to find out who they were by. Sort of ironic, really, because I actually think they’re almost bordering on ugly. They kind of look like bowling shoes on steroids; and yet I longed for them. There’s just something so chic about them, don’t you think? I recall Forever 21 came out with a knockoff, but they were gone in a hot second and sadly the originals are approximately $600 out of my budget. What’s a girl to do?

Coconuts by Matisse “Davis” Booties

Despite these “Davis” booties by Coconuts by Matisse being largely fabric, I think they’re a truly excellent knockoff of the Chloé boots. I mean, despite fabric and color they are practically identical. These are also available in black, but I think the dual-color is where it’s at. Wear with a mini skirt and look ever so fashion forward. And for only $83.95.

ASOS TASCA Suede Lace-Up Wedge Boots

OK, these “TASCA” lace-up wedge boots by ASOS may not be a perfect replica color-wise, but shape-wise they nailed it. We love the folded over flaps and texture on texture feel. Too bad they didn’t throw a little khaki in there, right? I see these looking great over skinny jeans or even with shorts and patterned tights. There’s something very rugged but also feminine about these wedges and that’s what I love. I’d probably go with the black color over the tan (yep, they’re available in black, too), but it’s your call.

I’ve heard a white shoe is hard to love. Be it the hard-to-clean color, the bridal connotation, or the invariable summer feel, people seem to shy away from this color. Well, I for one am all for white shoes. I have a pair of white snakeskin pumps that I wear pretty much every chance I get. Another pair I’d love to have in my shoe closet is Sigerson Morrison‘s Ankle Tie Wedge Sandals. The wedge is the perfect height, the bow is delightfully girly and the white is pure. They also have a touch of retro in them which I am a total sucker for.

Dollhouse “Tali” Wedge Sandals

Let me guess. You think the Sigerson Morrison Ankle Tie sandals are cute but not $332.50 cute (retail price $475!). Well, I don’t blame you. That’s a hard figure to swallow. Luckily, Dollhouse has come out with a great alternative. Their “Tali” wedge sandals in white look identical to our SMs, with the addition of a funky stacked wedge heel. They also come in a myriad of other colors which is sure to please you color-craving cooks. For a mere $41.95, why not taste the rainbow?
