Real vs. Steal – Akiko Ogawa Metal Plated Wedge Boots

by Irina on December 21, 2009

I must admit I’ve never heard of Akiko Ogawa until a few months ago when I spotted a pair of her kickass metal plated wedge boots on the feet of model sensation Chanel Iman who rocked them during Fashion Week (discovered via Jak&Jil; a must read for every shoe aficionado). It was love at first sight and I became slightly obsessed with these cut-out wedge boots. However, up until now I wasn’t able to find out how much they retail for or where I can buy these boots in the first place which is probably for the better since I’m fairly certain I couldn’t afford them anyway.

Jeffrey Campbell “Madness” Wedge Boots

If you’re a regular here on InTheirCloset, you’re probably aware of Jeffrey Campbell‘s inability to come up with own designs. Most of his shoes are either heavily inspired by designer footwear or are flat out copied replicas just like these boots which he rightfully named “Madness”. I seriously can’t spot one single difference when I look at both the designer and JC’s knocked-off version. Can you? If you like what you see and are still in need of a pair of badass boots to float around in the snow, be FAST! This style is going to sell out in no time!

Ooo, those boots are KICK ASS! OMG!

The Jeffrey Campbells do differ slightly, in that the Ogawa pair has a wooden wedge and the metal plates on the outer and inner sides of the wedge, whereas the JC pair has a leather (?) coated wedge and the metal plate is only on the outside. The JC pair now runs for about $350, not cheap, but probably much cheaper than the original. Still, rather blatantly “inspired by”…
