March 2010

I was really twisted whether or not I should share this little secret with you which almost never happens as I love our readers, but on this occasion I felt a little greedy because of the awesomeness of the deal and was afraid if too many people would know about this sale I wouldn’t be able to make a good bargain. However, Karma is a b*tch, so I better not mess with her! ;-) Alas, here’s the once-in-a-lifetime deal…

theOutnet 1st Birthday Designer Sale

Sounds too good to be true, I know. I can’t stop thinking: “Where’s the catch?” – But NET-A-PORTER who is the owner of theOutnet is a well respected e-tailer in the fashion industry, so I highly doubt that they’d be trying to fool their customers with some shady promotions. Anyway, I’m super curious to find out how good this sale’s going to be. Can you imagine snagging Louboutins for just $1? OMG! – Head over to theOutnet USls if you’re located in the US or theOutnet Internationalls for UK, Europe + rest of the world, register an account with them (if you haven’t one already) and rsvp once again for the sale which is going to be on April 16th, 2010. Good luck!

UPDATE: I just received this email which further explains how the birthday designer sale will work, read below…

Dear Irina,

Yes! theOutnet.com is having a 1st birthday party and everyone’s invited, so be sure to tell your readers!

To celebrate our 1st birthday, the most fashionable fashion outlet will host a one-day designer sale – all items will be at the giveaway price of $1. There’s a limit of one item per guest, but be quick – items will go fast and it’s first come, first served.

This once-in-a-lifetime event will take place on Friday April 16th – our official birthday – and you’ll only be able to access the sale on the day via a secret link sent by email.

You have to RSVP to enter our birthday pop-up sale. The RSVP list opened yesterday on March 29th and closes April 11th. Even if you’ve already registered for an account at theOutnet, you’ll still need to RSVP. It’s important that you communicate this point clearly within any editorial or story.

Not registered yet? In order to RSVP, you’ll need to sign up with a password and register for an account.

Best wishes,
theOutnet.com team

Nude Shoes Under $100!

by Irina on March 30, 2010

We’ve been getting quite a few requests lately to do a post on affordable nude shoes. It’s a trend I have first seen emerging on the red carpet about 2 years ago. Eva Longoria seems to be pioneering this trend as she owns a multitude of nude heels. From simple Louboutin pumps to luscious champagne colored satin evening sandals we can regularly see Eva sporting nude footwear on and off the red carpet. And who can blame her? It’s probably as flattering as a shoe trend can be because nude shoes naturally elongate your legs and can be worn with almost any outfit either dressed up or down.

We’ve made it our mission to find the best nude heels for under $100 and I’m really satisfied with how many fabulous nude shoes are currently on the market for a budget-friendly price. Now that spring has finally come and temperatures are rising, it’s time to lighten up our wardrobes… starting with our shoes! Enjoy our finds and let us know whether or not you like this trend or if you already have a pair of nude heels in your closet.

Azzedine Alaïa is an inspired clothes designer, but I think he’s an even better shoe designer. Devotees seem to hoard his footwear like each pair is the last. Alaïa counts many celebrities as fans but our favorite starlets seem to favor one pair of his shoes in particular: the Ankle Strap Platform Sandals. They have delightful lattice-like cut-away detailing and a 70s retro vibe. The black color is divine, of course, but the cerise has my heart (just look how great they look paired with black stockings on Miroslava Duma, below). You’ll be paying for that style, however: these sandals retail for about $660 and are sold out anyway.

GUESS “Tank” Platform Sandals

If you love the look of the Alaïas but, like me, can’t afford them, GUESS has come out with their version of the Ankle Strap Platform Sandal. Their red color appears to be more on the side of burnt orange but the lattice cut-away is dead-on, as is the adorable peep-toe. GUESS has added a T-strap to their copy, which some women might find is actually more flattering to their legs than just having an ankle-strap. These GUESS “Tank” sandals are also available in medium and dark brown as well as black and come with a reasonable price tag of $98.95.

Vince Camuto “Paula” Peep-toe Sandals

If the GUESS sandals aren’t quite doing it for you (I don’t know, maybe you hate T-straps!), we thought these Vince Camuto “Paula” sandals were also a great alternative to the Alaïas. They have the same great cut-aways (minus the perforated edges), a platform front (with triangle detailing, just like the originals) and a retro-inspired chunky heel. These will run you only slightly more than the GUESS sandals, which is to say a helluva lot less than the Azzedine Alaïas.

Alexander Wang is arguably the master of rock grunge. His clothes are exquisitely designed but also have a downtown edge. So leave it to Wang to create a LBD that is equal parts East-Village and Red-Carpet. A nude under layer hints at skin without actually showing any and a sweetheart neckline adds…well, sweetness. I’ll tell you what isn’t sweet, though: that price tag. Oh, and did we mention it’s also sold out? Sit tight, though, we just might have something for you…

Topshop Bandage Ruch Bandeau Dress

Topshop‘s “Bandage Ruch Bandeau Dress” might not be a dead-ringer for the Alexander Wang dress above, but by golly it’s darn close. I might even argue that it’s better. I’m really enjoying the thicker bands of fabric that are strategically placed over the hip and bust area. Of course we still have that hint of a sweetheart neckline and the mini-length and at $90 ($90!) this really is a steal. I predict this one will sell out fast.

What came first: Sarah Jessica Parker‘s amazing sense of style or Sex and the City? Not quite sure what the answer to that is, but I do know that anytime SJP is seen in public, she really wows. Not only does she have a seriously kick-ass body that looks good in all sorts of styles, but she really takes risks too – some that really pay off, some that fall a little short. Here she is (with Cynthia Nixon) on the set of Sex and the City 2, looking every bit the fashion-forward NYer that she plays (and IS). My favorite part of the outfit, without hesitation, are those Brian Atwood Loca pumps. The gold studs are so very “now” and OMG that divine platform and d’orsay heel. Not cheap at $800, but most certainly stunning.
